Что бы ни говорила молодежь, по количеству нереализованных ситуаций «Мифы» способны были дать фору многим рок-группам обеих столиц. Они взяли впечатляющий разгон в 73-75 годах, легко выиграв первые места сразу на трех рок-смотрах в Ленинграде, Москве и Таллине. Первоначально они подавали большие надежды и в течение нескольких лет уверенно входили в ленинградский top-5, однако извлечь из своего звездного статуса какие-то конкретные результаты им так и не удалось.
Тем не менее питерские фаны просто молились на них, и когда группа во главе с вокалистами Геннадием Барихновским (бас), Сергеем Даниловым (гитара) и Юрием Ильченко (гитара) была в ударе, равных им на концертах просто не было.
«Мифы» были раскованны и уверены в себе, непринужденно держались на сцене, не брезговали всевозможными кайфами, в результате чего за чрезмерное потребление идеалов хиппизма Данилов в 77-м году оказался в тюрьме.
«Мифы» играли хиппистскую бит-музыку с реверансами в сторону блюза и реггей. Они обладали очарованием новоиспеченных рок-звезд, которые якобы не знают себе цену, но при этом никогда не пытаются дезориентировать собственных слушателей и запудрить им мозги всевозможными псевдоэкспериментами.
В своих мемуарах Андрей Макаревич вспоминает, что после «Мифов» «Машина времени» просто боялась выходить на сцену. Маргулиса тогда выволакивали из-за кулис силой, и в этом была своя сермяжная правда жизни.

Storyteller - The Complete Anthology: 1964-1990, often referred to as The Storyteller Anthology or simply Storyteller is a 4-disc compilation released by Rod Stewart in November 1989 (see 1989 in music). It was released by Warner Bros. Records (WEA 9 25987-2) and contains sixty-four tracks. Five of the tracks had never before been released. Storyteller spans the whole of Rod’s career beginning with the 1964 release of “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” and ending with “Downtown Train”, a new song for 1989. It was designed for release in the US and contains four discs each covering a different period somewhat chronologically. Disc One spans 1964-1971 and includes “ Can I Get a Witness?” recorded while Rod was with Steampacket and which had never before been released. Disc Two spans 1971-1976. Disc Three spans 1975-1981 and includes “To Love Somebody” featuring Booker T. & the M.G.'s. In the liner notes Rod recalls that this version was recorded shortly before Al Jackson, Jr. was killed. Disc Four spans 1981-1989 and includes never before released versions of “I Don't Want to Talk About It” and “This Old Heart of Mine”. Originally released in an LP-sized box package, it was re-released on November 17, 2009 in a more compact boxed configuration.

As should be expected, Steely Dan's four-disc box set isn't like all the other rectangular pop-music retrospectives/tombstones. Not for Messrs. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen the typically bloated, ego-jacking crate padded out with childhood recordings, suspect cassette demos, and broken-down session takes, annotated by candid snapshots purloined from some distant relative.
Nope, this is simply the Dan Mach 1's complete oeuvre, from the craft-conscious pop of Can't Buy a Thrill to the jazzy torpor of Gaucho, laid out chronologically and neatly compressed into four discs, with not even a handful of "bonus" cuts (a live recording of "Bodhisattva", a 1971 demo of "Everyone's Gone to the Movies" with Flo and Eddie on the side, "Here at the Western World", a Royal Scam outtake, and their obligatory soundtrack cameo, "FM") to colour outside the lines. The liner notes are suitably smart, even if they occasionally strain trying to stay astride of B&F's patent sardonicism. For the aspiring Steely Dan completist, a fine place to start.

For fans of the legendary Steely Dan, this four-disc box set is a dream come true. Citizen Steely Dan 1972-1980 contains every track (plus one rare demo) from every album by the ultra-creative team of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. The accompanying book is stuffed full of rare photos, cover art, album reviews and other info you never thought you'd see about these reclusive artisans. Tales of Fagen and Becker's infamous marathon recording sessions and intense working environment aside, the results of their efforts are spectacular. All the hits are here, of course, but it is the massive amount of additional material that makes this set so special. The deep soul of "Dirty Work" from Can't Buy A Thrill or the funk of "Your Gold Teeth" from Countdown To Ecstasy are justa couple of early examples of their craftsmanship. The unique performance of Duke Ellington's "East St. Louis Toodle-oo" followed by "Parker's Band" from the sensational Pretzel Logic reveal the source of the jazz influence that permeated Fagen & Becker's work. The later material from Royal Scam, Aja and Gaucho takes on a sheen of refinement and it, like the rest of their art, is best enjoyed in its entirety.

The set is a collection of all of Steely Dan's albums (up to 1993) in chronological order, and also contains a non-LP single ("FM"), a non-LP B-side ("Bodhisattva (Live)"), a rare compilation track ("Here at the Western World"), and a previously unreleased demo of "Everyone's Gone to the Movies". The set is not, however, a complete compilation of every track released by Steely Dan up to 1993. Missing are both sides of the band's 1972 debut single ("Dallas" b/w "Sail the Waterway"), neither of which has ever been re-issued on CD. Until 1998, this was the only place to find the remastered versions of the Steely Dan albums. However, because the albums were split up irregularly amongst the discs (in some cases with the track order changed), the remastered studio albums were issued in 1998, albeit without bonus tracks.

These 83 songs go a long way toward demonstrating how Little Feat evolved their hard-to-define but infectious swamp-rock, blues, and boogie sound. The final disc in the four-disc Hotcakes & Outtakes, dubbed "Studio Outtakes," offers up the very first demo tapes made by Lowell George, the mastermind of the group.
Backed by keyboardist Billy Payne, drummer Richie Hayward, and bassist Roy Estrada (the first player to leave the band), George's down-and-dirty slide guitar and plaintive voice blend grit, intelligence, and humor. Combining an off-center Southern California rock sensibility (George and Estrada had both been members of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention) with a love of New Orleans rhythms, Little Feat became a quintessentially American band. Songs from their classic albums are gathered here, as well as live recordings and tracks from the post-George era. After George died, the group took a hiatus in the 1980s before reforming; the third disc chronicles 1988 to '98 and shows that Little Feat are as distinctive as ever. The box includes notes by Bud Scoppa, interviews with the group's founding members, and a previously unseen painting by Neon Park, whose cover art graced a number of Little Feat albums. The definitive Feat overview, this is ideal for old fans and newcomers alike.

Rhino's four-disc box set Hotcakes & Outtakes treats all of Little Feat's incarnations with equal respect. This even-handed approach has advantages, even if Lowell George dominates the proceedings. How could he not? He was a musician of immense talents, shaping the band's core sound while building an impressive body of songs. This set reveals that the rest of the band, while not writers of George's ilk, still wrote their share of great songs and, best of all, their fusion of funk, blues, country, rock and jazz still sounded lively, even when they reunited a decade after his death. Yes, it was missing his unique brilliance and vision, yet the reunited Feat still carried the torch well, which this set proves. Still, the best thing about the box is the fourth disc, devoted to "Studio Artifacts," all dating from George's heyday with the band. Actually, it goes a little further than that, beginning with cuts from George and Roy Estrada's mid-'60s band the Factory and pre-Warner Bros recordings, plus a generous selection of outtakes and demos, including selections from George's solo album, Thanks I'll Eat It Here. It's a treasure trove for any Little Feat fan, filled with amazing cuts like the barn-storming "Rat Faced Dog" - tracks so good, it's hard to believe they haven't been released before. The fourth disc is reason for any devoted fan to pick up this set, but is this worthwhile for the curious? Well, yes, since this offers a great summary of their fascinating career, even if it duplicates some songs at the expense of album tracks like "A Apolitical Blues" which really should be here. Even with that flaw, Hotcakes & Outtakes performs its job well, proving that Little Feat is an American rock & roll band like no other.

Based in their original incarnation around the genius of Lowell George, Little Feat's legacy has left them overlooked by the general listening public, despite a wide-ranging style that embraces blues, country, gospel, jazz, and funk. This sumptuous four-CD set impressively chronicles this mercurial band's pre- and post- Lowell George journey with rare photos, essays, and track-by-track reminisces from band members, along with a disc chock-full of rarities and outtakes. Throughout Hotcakes, it's hard to disagree with liner notes author Bud Scoppa's opinion that Little Feat is as rootsy as the Band, as funky as the Meters, and as cerebral as Steely Dan. Early numbers like "Willin'," "Tripe Face Boogie," and "Cold, Cold, Cold" find Little Feat going from eclectic country-fried boogie, to a syncopated New Orleans sound upon the arrival of Sam Clayton and Kenny Gradney, to more familiar fare like "Dixie Chicken" and "Fat Man in the Bathtub." By the time George cut his only solo album Thanks I'll Eat It Here (represented here by "20 Million Things"), Little Feat were disbanding, but they regrouped in the late '80s as a straightforward roots-rock outfit, best known for numbers like "Let it Roll" and "Rad Gumbo."
