Michele Fanfani / drums; Fabrizio Pieraccini / guitars, vocals; Giovanni Fanfani / keyboards; Guido Melis / bass Brought together by a common passion for the likes of LED ZEPPELIN, The WHO, DEEP PURPLE, QUEEN, PINK FLOYD, etc., Italian art rockers GREEN have honed their skills and developed their own sound through live gigs and working with several prog bands on the local Florence scene in the late 90's. Headed by guitarist/vocalist Fabrizio Pieraccini, the quartet concocted an interesting concept album called "Life" (2003).
Some albums sing lightly of love and life. This one, however, gives the latter subject some serious thought. The concept is about an ordinary guy named "Mr. Kite". Like a kite in the wind, he is tossed around by life's crises but undauntedly goes on, no matter what he finds on his path. The music is a collection of airy melodic hooks, original song writing, expressive vocals and masterful arrangements wrought by keyboard player Giovanni Fanfani and Pieraccini's own guitar play. Pulsating rhythms, courtesy of drummer Michele Fanfani and bassist Guido Melis, give the music a tight edge. Their influences are a mixture of RUSH, WINGER and GIANT as well as a bit of Roger Waters for the heavy lyrical contents.
Nothing particularly groundbreaking but certainly worth checking out if you're a fan of hard rock with good hooks and sharp lyrics.
