Review Album:
Despite the dreadful moniker and rotten front cover, 'Bondage Fruit II' from 1996 is in fact an excellent album. There's a lot of Zeuhl sound present - but also a lot of what might be termed punk. I'm liking the female vocals by women who's names are too difficult to repeat. They lift the tunes to a higher level.
Damn - the Japs are good at this kind of stuff! Magma are the clear core influences here, but whereas Magma are darker and more oppresive overall, Bondage Fruit are livelier and more playful.
There's a lot of nice strings on 'Cottleston Pie' which adds a good dose of diversity. Although, more disturbingly, I remember 'Rolf' the dog from the 'Muppet Show' singing 'Cottleston Pie' in 1976! What the????
Some parts of this album sound quite 'Koenjihyakkei' which is always a good thing in my books. The guitars are a bit too raw sounding for my liking, but the drums, bass and vocals are super. Things become quite deranged during the last 15 minutes - a bit like Tom chasing Jerry in the cartoons! Good stuff.

This album is mostly music accumulated from different projects (three apparently) that X-L S participated in. As most of the Belgian chamber prog groups have, they often were linked to multi-phase artistic projects and this made them fairly widely known in Belgium, even if this did not really helped them making a breakthrough. In this case, we deal with tracks that were written for short films of friend Wim Vandekeybus dating from 91 (Immer Das Selbe Gelogen), 93 (Her Body Doesn't fit her Soul) and 94(mountains made Of Barking). Needless to say that hardly none ever saw these movies outside of the opening screening events. ...

Третий альбом джаз-роковых проггеров из Монреаля, играющих инструментальный джаз-рок (или как сейчас опять модно стало говорить фьюжн) с прогрессивно-металлическими элементами.
Группу ведет вперед басист Антуан Фарар, который является главным автором музыки. Неудивительно, что мы явно слышим мощные басовые партии.
В целом все сыграно мощно, виртуозно и технично, с изрядным смешением стилей в лучших традициях прогрессивного рока - тут и металлизированные риффы, и мощные клавиши, и куски атонального джаза вперемешку с техничным джаз-роком.
Эта музыка требует подготовленного слушателя, некоторым она может показаться заумной или скучной. Тут нет красивых мелодий и ровных ритмов. Зато для любителей сложных ритмических структур и виртуозных инструментальных пассажей это самое оно.
