Альбом, как и положено легендам, имеет эпическое название - "О том, как Запад пал…". Под Западом имеется в виду Западное побережье США, Калифорния, где Zeppelin выступали с концертами в 1972-м.
Концерты в свое время неоднократно издавались на бутлегах, но для этого тройного альбома они были заботливо отобраны и ремастерированы Джимми Пейджем, который постарался донести дух концертов - и в самом лучшем виде.
У Zeppelin были концертные альбомы: The Song Remains the Same, но это - запись концерта уже, по сути, ветеранов рока. Был BBC Sessions - альбом их выступлений для радио. Такого - не было…
Здесь есть все: и рок, и блюз, и акустика, и длинные, очень длинные концертные номера - 25-минутная Dazed and Confused, 23-минутная Whole Lotta Love, 19-минутный Moby Dick.

For a band with such an overarching legacy, the official record of Led Zeppelin's legendary - and unpredictable - live act has heretofore been poorly represented by the disappointing, scattershot soundtrack to The Song Remains the Same. But this triple-disc live set (culled from 1972 Long Beach/LA shows in advance of Houses of the Holy) addresses history with a vengeance, if a few decades late. These shows have rightfully assumed cult status in the bootleg market, showcasing a band at the peak of its creative and performing powers. Zep faithful will welcome the belated release as evidence for enduring loyalty, but younger fans may find its diversity and dynamics even more enlightening - indeed, whole careers have since been built on the musical ideas Jimmy Page and company toss off here as decorative filler. Crucially rooted in the amped-and-hammered American blues of the guitarist's former band, the Yardbirds, the marathon workouts of "Dazed and Confused" and "Whole Lotta Love" (which consume nearly an hour all by themselves) somehow encompass Ricky Nelson, Morocco, James Brown, Holst, Elvis Presley, and Muddy Waters amidst their trademark sturm und drang, while the acoustic set that closes out disc one showcases the band's - and particularly Robert Plant's good-natured, crypto-Celtic folk appeal with energetic aplomb. Bigger and brasher than just about any rock act that followed in its historic wake, yet ever fan-loyal to its myriad influences, Led Zeppelin's live juggernaut finally gets the monument it deserves.

How the West Was Won is a triple live album by the English rock group Led Zeppelin, released by Atlantic Records on Compact Disc on 27 May 2003, and DVD-Audio on 7 October 2003. These original performances are from the band's 1972 concert tour of the United States, recorded at the L.A. Forum on 25 June 1972 and Long Beach Arena on 27 June 1972. Guitarist Jimmy Page considers Led Zeppelin at this point to have been at their artistic peak, as is mentioned in the album's liner notes. In an interview he gave to The Times newspaper in 2010, when asked which performances from Led Zeppelin's career stand out to him now, he made reference to these gigs: I think what we did on ... How the West was Won - that 1972 gig - is pretty much a testament of how good it was. It would have been nice to have had a little more visual recordings, but there you go. That’s the conundrum of Led Zeppelin! For many years, live recordings of these two shows only circulated in the form of bootlegs, and even then only certain audience recordings were available to fans and collectors (for example, Burn Like a Candle). Though several soundboard recordings of Led Zeppelin concerts were circulated amongst fans after having been stolen from Page's personal archive some time in the 1980s, no soundboards of the 1972 Long Beach or LA Forum shows were taken, meaning the release of How the West Was Won was the first chance fans had of hearing the soundboard versions of these concerts. The songs from the two shows underwent some extensive editing and audio engineering by Page at Sarm West Studios in London before being released on the album. A comprehensive analysis of live tracks edits for the album can be found at The Garden Tapes. Some songs which were played at the concerts, such as "Communication Breakdown", "Tangerine", "Thank You" and a rare version of "Louie Louie" from the 25 June show, were left off How the West Was Won.

The album debuted on the Billboard 200 chart for the week ending 14 June 2003 at number 1, with sales of 154,000 copies. It remained on the chart for 16 weeks. It was certified gold and platinum (1,000,000 units) record awards by the RIAA on 30 June 2003. The album became the first Led Zeppelin album since 1979's In Through the Out Door to reach the #1 position. How the West Was Won is tied with Smile by Brian Wilson, and Van Lear Rose by Loretta Lynn as the best reviewed album of all time by Metacritic, with an average score of 97%

Сразу видно, что дизайном этой публикации занимался человек знающий свое дело. Гармония в сочетании цветов, подбор впечатляющих шрифтов. Уже, конечно не первая такая красивая публикация. Но сегодня мне уже надоело скромничать в выражении восхищения подобными релизами. Прошу данное высказывание принять, как Благодарность и не в каких либо других целях. Что касается содержания, то тут конечно же для определения интереса и ценности для каждого, необходимо слушать. Благо выходные располагают такими возможностями, что мы и будем делать. А вообще беглый просмотр рецензии к публикации, вызывает определенный интерес в плане необычности содержания.
