Madacy's Ultimate Disco: 30th Anniversary Collection sticks to familiar singles, most of which went gold or platinum shortly after release. It would by hard to come by a much better introduction to the style -- especially considering the breadth (fittingly enough, there are 30 tracks) -- but one significant stumbling block is that the selections only appear in their three-to-four minute radio edits, often sacrificing the extended grooves that the form thrived on. This is packed with blockbusters, including Kool & the Gang's "Celebration," the Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoaster," the Commodores' "Brick House," the Jackson 5's "Dancing Machine," and -- of course -- Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."
