A killer second album from Elizabeth Shepherd -- every bit as wonderful as her first, and with a deeper sound overall! As before, the grooves are a wonderful blend of Shepherd's vocals and piano work -- sometimes acoustic, sometimes on Fender Rhodes -- supported by some highly rhythmic bass, drums, and percussion -- as simple as they are soulful, and always with a subtle sort of groove that's totally great! The album's quite a uniquely jazzy accomplishment, and each new track is a delight -- a surprisingly simple approach, and one that's extremely refreshing in an era of too-overdone recordings. Shepherd's songwriting is wonderful -- fresh, and never cliched or cloying -- and her vocals have a style that's somewhat dreamy, but never lazy -- always as soulful as the grooves from the instrumentation, and recorded with wonderful clarity by Nostalgia 77.
