1987, l'ex guitariste des Beatles Georges Harrison fait un carton avec le titre "Got My Mind Set On You" qui figure sur son ultime album solo Cloud Nine. Ce que l'on sait moins c'est que ce morceau est en r?alit? un cover de la version de James Ray qui date de 1961. Et au Mellotron on pr?f?re toujours l'original ? la copie !
D'abord chanteur dans un groupe de doo-wop au milieu des ann?es 50, ses premiers enregistrements se feront sous le nom de Little Jimmy Ray en r?f?rence ? sa petite taille, 1m50 tout au plus. Au d?but des ann?es 60, les fins de mois sont rudes pour Ray et c'est son ami compositeur Rudy Clark qui le fait rentrer chez Caprice Records en lui composant "If You Gotta Make a Fool of Somebody" qui hisse enfin James Ray ? la t?te des R&B charts. Le titre sera d'ailleurs repris par les Beatles et Freddie And The Dreamers un an plus tard. S'en suit son unique album ?ponyme o? figure notamment "Itty Bitty Pieces" et le fameux "I've Got My Mind Set On You" ?galement compos? par Clark. James Ray meurt d'une overdose d?but 1963.
