«Exclusive for Lossless-Galaxy»

ABSOLUTUM was founded by Christian Kolf in 2016. Since then, two demos have been released on tape and vinyl. After several years of silence, ABSOLUTUM is now returning with a new lineup and their full-length debut, ENDURA.

Christian:
The songs were written in a relatively short period of time in early 2020 – probably within four to six weeks. Looking back, I was going through a very unstable period of my life at the time, although I considered it "normal" at the time. My everyday life was characterized by restlessness and inner turmoil. The music simply flowed from me. The dissonance increased, while the nostalgic sound I had pursued on the first demo faded into the background. I was more inspired by US black metal.
In 2020, Christoph recorded the drums. During this phase, Jan Buckard (bass) and Seuche (vocals) left – at a time when the drum recordings were already completed. At first, I wasn't sure how to proceed with the project. Then Stefan Braunschmidt agreed to play the bass. His playing had a strong influence on the music. He didn't just copy the guitar lines, but developed his own bass lines, which significantly changed the overall sound. This forced me to remix the guitars.
I spontaneously asked Stéphane Gerbaud. We were friends on Facebook, and I knew he was the singer for Aevangelist. I messaged him, sent him the demos – and he agreed. The vocal recording process took a long time. That was Stéphane's way of working, which I respect very much. He took a lot of time and took it very seriously.

Looking back, I'm very proud of what we created. Every musician involved had a huge influence, and I'm very grateful to everyone. I feel very fortunate to have realized this album with such talented and dedicated people. The long development period made the album even more valuable to me personally. The recurring breaks in between also helped me gain some distance during the mixing process.

The album was mixed by me and mastered by Armin Rave.

About the lyrics:
"The Endura was an extremely ascetic rite of the Cathars, a medieval Christian sect active primarily in southern France and northern Italy. In this ritual, believers committed themselves to starvation to free their souls from their imprisoned bodies—partly voluntarily, partly as a conscious spiritual preparation for death."

Stéphane Gerbaud's statement on the vocal recordings:
"As you've probably noticed, I completely obscure the words, making them almost incomprehensible. All of this serves to create a sense of alienation. The lyrics are, for me, an emotional and symbolic support for an experience that I perceive as a ritual—but ultimately, the only thing that matters to me is the aesthetic aspect, so I only keep what sounds best."
