'Miles From India' is an historic and ambitious gathering of 2 dozen musicians from two continents paying tribute to the great Miles Davis with a 2CD set showing both the influence of Indian music in the groundbreaking music of Miles Davis and conversely the influence Miles' music has had on many contemporary Indian musicians.
Featured are numerous alumni of many of Miles great bands who collaborate on the tracks with fifteen master Indian musicians. The Miles alumni include: Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, Badal Roy, Gary Bartz, Dave Liebman, Mike Stern, Pete Cosey, Michael Henderson, Marcus Miller, Lenny White, Robert Irving III, Benny Rietveld, Adam Holzman, Vince Wilburn, Leon "Ndugu" Chancler and Wallace Roney.
Co-producers Bob Belden and Louiz Banks have recast familiar themes from such landmark Miles recordings as Bitches Brew, In A Silent Way, On The Corner, Big Fun and Kind of Blue with an East Meets West sensibility. The songs were recorded in studios around the world using new technology and even finding Belden at times producing bi-continental sessions live from his NYC apartment via SKYPE.
The one track never to have appeared on a Miles record is the CD's title track commissioned especially for the project and produced and written by guitarist John McLaughlin and performed alongside his Remember Shakti bandmate U. Shrinivas on electric mandolin, Louiz Banks on piano and Sikkil Guruccharan on vocals.
