The Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima met the double bassist Oliver Potratz and the drummer Oliver Steidle in Berlin in the year 2000. The three musicians became companions on a journey that has now lasted for 25 years. They have defined their own sound and consistently push the boundaries of what is musically possible in a trio formation. The musical combination of influences from Finland and Berlin results in an original, wild and creative jazz music. The trio "Klima Kalima" uses elements from rock, blues and folk to give their modern jazz sound a quirky and unique touch. Their albums received excellent international reviews, won the New German Jazz Award in 2008 and have performed concerts across Europe.

There’s so much about the heart and soul of this music that can’t be taught in a classroom. I’ve always wanted to help the younger musicians, passing on what I’ve learned just as the older musicians did for me. That’s how music continues to thrive. During the Covid lockdown, I channeled my creativity into composing and arranging for a group that existed in my imagination. While taking in late-night sets in New York and attending a weekly Emerging Artists Series in New Jersey, I encountered incredibly talented young musicians.
