The only Canadian album of jazz-rock band from Quebec. The band was formed in 1969 from two groups of musicians - “The Phoenix Of Ayre’s Cliff” (formerly “The Dynamics”) and “The Jades”, played in Ontario and Quebec. Organist Richard Terry and saxophonist Norman Burgess of “The Phoenix” wanted to create a great jazz-rock group and go to the United States, where similar groups have been very much in fashion at the time. They met with the organist and vocalist Johnny Ranger Billy Ledster of “The Jades” and formed a group with them, called “The Sound Syndicate” (“Sonic Syndicate”). As the group consisted of two organist, one of them - Richard Terry - I began to play bass. They were joined by the drummer of “The Jades” Claude Roy, trumpeters Benoit Perreault and Paul Perkins, guitarist Garry Beattie and saxophonist Gerry Labelle. Soon Perkins trumpet replaced Leo Harinen. The group found a manager Don Sita from Boston and began performing on the East Coast, slowly acquiring new members. For example, while playing at a club in Boston called “Lucifer’s” joined the band on stage trombonist Roger Homefield, so yes everyone liked that by the end of the concert became a new member of the group. When the “Sonic Syndicate” came to play in Seaside Heights (NJ), the group suddenly left Gerry Labelle, and was replaced by saxophonist Donald Sanders and his wife Sherri St. James, who was the lead singer of the ensemble more. As part of the 11 “Sonic Syndicate” listened to manager Barry Wolfe and recommended that the producer group Alan Lorber. The Panel has made an impression on Lorber, and he signed for her contract for one album with “Janus Records”. In late 1969 the band began recording the album in the “A & R Studios” in New York, continuing to go on tour around the East Coast down to Florida. When the album was finished, Lorber proposed to change the name of the group, and they chose the new - “Illustration”, ie, “Illustration”. During this period, “Illustration” is often performed on stage with various celebrities, for example, once at the Newport to Miami, they accompanied Tina Turner. Then they played the opening act for Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, Miles Davis and “Funcadelic”. The music press group gave positive feedback. Despite the fact that the “Illustration” enough material for a second album, and they offered a contract firm Monster American record “Warner Bros. Records ”, a group of business went into decline. Something they are not tied in terms of organization. The last thing that made “Illustration” - recorded at the studio “RCA Victor” in Montreal, five songs for the French-Canadian film “Apr?s Ski” (1971). The songs in the album came out, the soundtrack of “Apr?s Ski” (1971) as part of songs by other artists. By contractual reasons, the group “Illustration” is not even mentioned in the credits of the film. Shortly thereafter, “Illustration” disintegrated. All participants continued its (many continue to this day) in various musical activities of Canadian and American groups and projects…
