Jonathan Saunders / vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass, drumsZen Rock And Roll's second release, the Birthright Circle, is quite similar to the first one in relation to style. According to ProgRock Records, it's composed and recorded in the spirit of the British symphonic rock movement of the early 1970's. As I earlier stated (in the review of Zen Rock And Roll's debut album), Saunders' style is somewhere in between progressive rock and art rock... and his music is little bit reminiscent of Yes and Genesis. This new album will most certainly appeal to fans of the first album.
In terms of moods, this album has quite varying material. Tracks include the "dysfunctionally angry Thanatos, the agnostically advisory Anthem, the ironically upbeat Richard, and the 23 minute realistically hopeful Circle" as described at ProgRock Records' website. There are only four songs on this album (in its entirety of 45 minutes) which is quite average length. As with earlier album, production is quite good... it suits the style well and there isn't much to complain (except for some of the retro sounds).
Zen Rock And Roll's compositions are pleasant and refreshing to listen every once in a while. So once again I advice you to listen the samples at ProgRock Records' website to see if Zen Rock And Roll is for you. I quite like their songs, but they aren't for everyone.
