British jazz rock band active in the early 1970s. Evolved from The Mike Cotton Sound. The group was formed by trumpet player Mike Cotton, a musician who had fronted bands since the late 1950s (The Mike Cotton Jazzmen / The Mike Cotton Band / The Mike Cotton Sound). In an attempt to intercept the new sounds resulting from the psychedelic revolution, he formed Satisfaction in 1970, together with former Artwoods guitarist Derek Griffiths, John Beecham on trombone, Lem Lubin and Nick Newell (saxophones) and Bernie Higginson (drums). Although jazz influenced they also had a stronger rock and soul edge to their approach and soon secured a contract with Decca records in 1970. Recorded in Decca's studios with the production of David Hitchcock (who would later find acclaim as producer of Caravan, Camel and Genesis), their lone album was issued in 1970 and gained very favourable reviews. Then Decca released two singles in quick succession to try to break the band into the UK singles chart. In spite of a very positive response from the British music press both singles failed to secure a chart placing. Within months of the appearance of the album and singles, Satisfaction had ceased to exist.In 2014 Acid Jazz Records released Three Ages Of Man, the group's long-lost 2nd album, recorded in 1971 and 1972 but unreleased until then.
