STONEHENGE - NERINE (EP) - 2005

STONEHENGE was a progressive metal band from Hungary, formed in 1992 by Baláz Bóta (guitars) and Sándor Jutasi (drums). At the onset, learning how to play and practicing their art live as well as in the studio was the main goals of the outfit, which lead to a number of concerts in the years following their formation, and a large number of demos recorded: "Any Problems" from 1993, "Reality/Evolution" and "Rambling I" followed in 1995 and "Rambling II" in 1996.

In 1998 their first official album is issued, an EP titled "Angels".

Following the release of "Angels" a stable line-up started to emerge as well, after many changes in the formative years. When Ádám Baki (keyboards), Zoltán Bátky (vocals) and Kristóf Szabó (drums) hooks up with Bóta and Zoltán Somogyi (bass) a much needed settled line-up is in place. Somogyi is forced to leave the band the following year due to other commitments though, and is replaced by Bertalan Temesi (bass).

With this line-up firmly established Stonehenge hits the studio, and in 2001 their full length debut "Angelo Salutante" is released on the Nail Records label.

The album is well received, and as time goes by concert and festival invitations is a direct result of this; and Stonhenge starts getting international attention.

2002 see the band hooking up with Pain of Salvation's management, and a double CD version of their debut album is prepared for the European market. The band seems settled for an international breakthrough at this point in time.

It is with expectations that they head into the studio to record their sophomore release in 2003, but not long after the recording sessions starts guitarist and founding member Bóta suffers an accident, with an operation and 9 weeks of reconvalence following. At the same time his family obligations as a father starts taking their toll too. Due to this the fuzz about the band starts to wane, as developments now have slowed to a crawl.

A direct result of this is that vocalist Bátky leaves to follow other commitments; and after experimenting with a female vocalist, Kyrah, the band eventually concluded that they really needed a male vocalist for their sound. At the end of 2004 a new vocalist is agreed upon, Fumio. With a new vocalist in place the band starts recording their songs anew in the studio; and after several practical and at the end also economical troubles, the EP "Nerine" finally see the light of day in 2005.

After this developments seems to stop completely though, with the last reported news item on the band's homepage being the involvment of Adam Baki in the "Dream Is Destiny" project in 2006. In 2008 the Stonehenge homepage is taken down, and the band is believed to have folded.
