"RING OF MYTH" is a good Art Rock USA band that evolved into Symphonic after 16 years from their formation but still blend many sounds and elements from different genres, mainly Jazz/Fusion and Hard Rock.
The band was born in 1990 when keyboardist Danny Florez placed an add in a magazine trying to recruit members for a new band, the point is that the guy had no idea what style he wanted to perform, but soon George Picado who played guitar replied to the add and the guys seemed to complement very well.
The next step was to search for a drummer and placed another add, so Scott Raider joined them, according to the website the audition included music from THE BEATLES, THE POLICE, JIMMY HENDRIX and CREAM (Everything except Prog) so they decided to recruit him and search for a band name, so they decided for CATFISH (in reference to the Hendrix song Catfish Blues) and they started to work n parties and small venues as a cover band.
But Scott was studying for music engineer so after they changed the name for the definitive RING OF MYTH and three years of touring as a cover band, Scott leaves them and again they pace an add in a newspaper which leads to the recruit of Rick Stricker, with whom they release the first album "Unbound" (1996) with "Kinesis" after apparently having received calls from Wddie Offord and Magna Carta.
"Unbound" is more focused in Hard Rock and Jazz but with some Prog elements, to be honest it's a good album to be listened once in a while but not to be played very often because it's not really a 100% Prog album and is kind of simple and repetitive.
After the release of "Unbound" Florez and Picado wanted to make change path towards more experimental and cacophonic sound that caused the departure of Rick Stricker so their old partner Scott Raider comes to the rescue and not only joins as drummer but also works in the production of their new release "Weeds" in the year 2005 with many more YES elements but also a strong connection with King Crimson, a big leap from their simple debut, this is the reason why they should stay in Symphonic instead of being moved to Art Rock..
