Thomas Klarmann / bass, flute, keyboards, guitars, lead vocals; Robert Gozon / lead vocals, keyboards, guitars; Ulf Jacobs / drums, percussion, Roland DM, vocals; Rico Florcak / electric guitarWith their second album "Circles", recorded shortly after the release of their 2009 debut "Argos", the German progressive rock band Argos grew to a quartet by recruiting their former session player Rico Florczak as their primary guitarist. In Closed circles, Argos are supported by the two Superdrama musicians Michael Hahn (guitar) and Dieter Gunterman (sopran sax). These personnel changes has a huge influence on the sound of "Circles".
Their Canterbury influences have almost been dropped (but are still there in some passages). While "Argos" sounded like a mixture of Caravan, The Beatles and The Flower Kings, "Circles" is more like Argos' Van der Graaf Generator and Yes album, with overwhelming keyboards and more expressive singing by Thomas Klarmann and Robert Gozon, sometimes very close to Peter Hammill. So if you are more into symphonic progressive rock sound than into Canterbury, this album may be good for you
