Coming from Denmark, Phonomik crosses and transcends traditions and trends. Is their second release Soul Creeper modern heavy metal or very heavy rock? Honestly, I'm not sure. But I like what I hear.
What's here is almost indescribable. Here are some elements: thrash metal, melodic rock, some nu (?) metal, or a twist of these and others. Atmos Fear and Metel Fire are perfect examples of this mixture. Then again Life Lies betrays all the best of traditional metal. Does this make Phonmik's Soul Creeper more like progressive metal beyond cliche. I think so, or maybe not. For once it's nice to be confounded by an eclectic mixture of tones that both inspires and entertains. Phonomik does both. My only comparison is to to the sometime eccentricity of Germany's Rage. In the end, Soul Creeper is a pure heavy metal, and an unexpected melodic delight of mixed traditional and modern genres. Listen and you will be thrilled. Very recommended!
