Even though Blood & Water is the first album from the Finnish band Mehida, they have an impressive musical pedigree. Their members have been in groups including Candlemass, Therion, Kotipelto and Sonata Arctica.
Mehida's music is very melodic with big hooks and singalong choruses. There are also power metal and progressive influences. The keyboards are very prominent, along with plenty of crunchy guitar riffs and soaring solos. Even though the songs are complex with a lot of progressive elements, a strong sense of melody always remains.
Thomas Vikstrom (Therion, Candlemass) is Mehida's vocalist, and he has a voice that's both powerful and expressive. He has a good range and varied delivery. Lyrically the songs have a strong Christian message. Blood & Water isn't a real standout, but it is a solid melodic metal release.
