RUDESS MORGENSTEIN PROJECT - RUDESS MORGENSTEIN PROJECT - 1997

After turning down Dream Theater to join the Dixie Dregs, Jordan Rudess formed a two-man group featuring fellow bandmate and drummer Rod Morgenstein. The two manage to create a powerful sound that is rich in melody, harmony and rhythm. There are a number of styles covered with a fine mix of electric and acoustic keyboards. Despite their technical prowess, of which there is plenty on display, this is not a typical blowing session. In fact, many Fusion bands could learn a lesson here in that the song comes first, and that means the whole song, not just the head. This session contains fully realized and well-thought out compositions that facilitate both players strengths, while also pushing them to greater heights. A short tour in support of this recording found the duo opening for none other than Dream Theater. For labeling purposes, this music can best be described as ProgFusion and is highly recommended
