Fans of KING CRIMSON, UNIVERS ZERO and MAGMA, pay attention: HAPPY FAMILY* is one of the best bands currently happening in Japan right now. Furious riffing, noisy angular drumming, intense energy and top-notch musicianship is what they're about. Their guitar work is in the vein or Robert Fripp; the keyboards recall either UNIVERS ZERO or MAGMA (depending on what passages you're hearing); the fretless bass work will no doubt remind you of the MAGMA/Zeuhl fusion sound; and the drumming will instantly recall Bill Bruford or Daniel Denis of UNIVERS ZERO. Throw in a bit of heavy metal, some Japanese goofiness and you're in for quite a sonic ride.
Although they have released three cassettes in the early 90s (now out of print), the two following cd's are the only material available on the market: the eponymous "Happy Family" (95) and "Toscco" (97). The first features quirky and ultra-complicated themes and rhythms, yet the band never loses a step - even when they seem to get sloppy, it sounds deliberate and under control. On the grittier "Toscco" the band plays with more confidence still, although the music seems to have lost all traces of heavy metal (perhaps due to the presence of a new guitarist) and to concentrate on distilling the original aspects of the first album. Actually, hardly any traces of MAGMA or zeuhl remain on this one, replaced by a Zappa-like jazziness. This is amphetamine-driven music that demands your full attention. It takes a while to sink in but if you like being confounded by chaotic intensity, the trip is worth every penny you'll pay for these babies.

Ragnarök biography
Not to be confused with the New Zealand symphonic prog group from those very same years (that should belong in the site soon) or the Heavy Metal unit from the 80-90's, these Swedes managed four albums on Silence Record and some more (not listed here) in the early 90's. They are a typical example of atmospheric and melancholic prog like only Sweden can produce them. Their first album is a real classic known as a minor classic among progheads and they will participate to another group (KUNG TUNG - much harder) before doing their second album where those influences from that group will leave a mark. It is reputed to be as good as their debut. The later albums listed here remain of a good standard. Among the non-listed albums is "Well"(91) and is rather new age and sometimes industrial - not much to do with the earlier works.

Не думаю, что найдется много народу кто знаком с творчеством Christian Kolonovits, и наоборот мало кто не знаком с альбомами таких групп как Opus, OMEGA, Boney M, Supermax, Chilly, Einstein, Black Jack, Joy итд с которыми работал Christian Kolonovits, аранжировав песни, сыграв на рояле практически в каждом альбоме выше перечисленных исполнителей, написав огромное количество песен и музыки. Существуют также множество проектов с симфоническими оркестрами (Венский симфонический оркестр, Берлинский филармонический оркестр, Московский государственный симфонический, Симфонический оркестр радио, Будапештский филармонический оркестр Hollywood Bowl, Брукнера оркестр Линц и др.), которые получили международное признание. Проекты с Венским симфоническим оркестром (V.S.O.P.) и Берлинский филармонический оркестр (Moments of Glory, Berliner Philharmoniker / Scorpions) считаются величайшими в жанре симфо-рок.
