Источник: si1verЗалит на: Narod.ruGreat to see a new album by Rattlemouth, who veer further into the world-music scheme of things (Danny Finney always had *that sound* anyway, so it's a natural move for them) and this is a fine work. Highly recommended.
Rattlemouth emerged in the 1990’s from the ashes of the legendary 1980’s art-punk outfit the Orthotonics, offering stripped down hard driving works featuring saxophone, vocals, bass, guitar and drums. Finding success on the adventurous Cuneiofrm Records label, they produced two acclaimed albums and made successful tours including sharing the stage with Medeski, Martin, and Wood and Belgian prog rockers, Present. The rebirth of the ensemble in 2004 has seen the group work nonstop, composing and performing music for dance and film projects and maintaining a constant performance schedule in the Mid-Atlantic. Rattlemouth’s music is hypnotic, danceable, and unlike anything else coming out of Richmond’s thriving music scene. As local music critic, Chris Bopst, writes in his review of their 2006 release Hopabout, “Rattlemouth are the thinking man and woman's dance music. It can be a heady listen, but the emphasis is always on the slinky, sax driven rhythms that invoke the experimentation of Fred Frith and Ornette Coleman with solid world beat sensibilities…Rattlemouth prove that taking risks is always a worthwhile musical endeavor.” With the release of their latest album, 5, Rattlemouth focuses exclusively on their repertoire of Ethio-Jazz and other world music arrangements, capturing the powerhouse sound that has mesmerized audiences for years. Featuring the saxophone tandem of Danny Finney and Roger Carroll, the monster rhythm section of Robbie Kinter (drums) and Marc S. Langelier (bass), plus the unique guitar styling of George M. Lowe, they blaze through spirited instrumental updates of classic tunes from around the world (arranged by Lowe) plus similarly flavored originals."
