Charge It 2 Da Game debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Two charting singles were released from the album, "Just Be Straight with Me" (featuring Master P and Destiny's Child), and "It Ain't My Fault" (featuring Mystikal). Charge It 2 Da Game received and official Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America on March 25, 1998.

The Flavor Unit is a crew of emcees and DJs from New York City and Northern New Jersey. It is now known as the Unit. The original version of the crew centered around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. It was Mark's connections to Radio personalities Kool DJ Red Alert and DJ Chuck Chillout, who gave the crew quick notoriety. It did not hurt that the original members all had formidable rhyme skills and wrote streetwise lyrics. The 45 King eventually fell into serious drug abuse and Queen Latifah took over the name, and it became her umbrella organization. Flavor Unit Management is run by Latifah, one of the original members of the Flavor Unit, and Shakim Compere. Past management clients were Monica, OutKast, Faith Evans, Total, SWV, Almighty RSO.

Layin' in the Cut is the third studio album by A Lighter Shade of Brown. It was released on July 26, 1994 for Mercury Records and was produced by Jammin' James Carter, DTTX, Robert Gutierrez, Romeo and Stoker. Layin' in the Cut would prove to be the duo's most successful on the Billboard charts, peaking at #54 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #169 on the Billboard 200. Two singles also made it to the charts, "Hey DJ" peaked at #43 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #18 on the Hot Rap Singles, while "If You Wanna Groove" feat. Aulsondro "Novelist" Hamilton peaked at #45 on the Hot Rap Singles.
