I recently came across the debut album ‘BAND of BROTHERS’ by the GUNSMOKE BROTHERS BAND. They come from French Brittany and make delicious Southern rock music in the vein of Molly Hatchet and the Outlaws. I am always looking for new or unknown bands etc. who dare to hold the blues , Southern rock or blues rock in high esteem.

I think this band is a good example of that. There are 12 own compositions on all mainly written by Xavier Quémet. It has become an album that moves forward with full force and boards are cut from thick wood. Delicious uncomplicated synchronously played guitar parts, fierce guitar duels and a solid base of bass and drum will take you for more than an hour in the best tradition of the 70s Southern rock.

The opener liar PIGS is about the dubious role that the media play today and immediately gives you a musical picture of what you can expect the entire cd. In MARTIN BROWN (acoustic intro) , a place in the SUN and the HANGMAN's TREE we also hear the slide guitar and with BIG TITS , SWEET LIPS (haha) he sings about one of his former girlfriends. My DOG and SONG for the BRAVE are my personal favorites

Let the album wash over you and enjoy the playing fun of these guys who call themselves ‘the four guitar army of the west’. Nothing new under the sun but just delicious. Of course there are also some points for improvement such as the production and the vocals , but that doesn't really bother me. Can only get better. by Aad Sneep
