A gem of a 70s
rock record -- even though it was never issued at the time! Johnny Lunchbreak were an obscure Connecticut combo, and they recorded this material over two short sessions in the mid 70s -- material that never saw official release on record, due to the breakup of the band -- but which has been beautifully brought to light here by the Numero Group as part of their new Asterisk label! Although echoing some of the headier work of their generation, Johnny Lunchbreak also have a nicely stripped-down feel too -- approaches that are a bt in line with some of the changes going down in other scenes at the time -- particularly Boston and New York. The work's not really tight enough to be
power pop, but is definitely shaking off some fuzzier elements of the previous generation -- and titles include "A Very Papal State", "Tinsel Days", "Amazing Pain", "Milton's Lament", "Never Found", "It's Got A Hold On You", and "Not A Dry Eye In America".
