1985 Done With Mirrors
Done with Mirrors is the eighth studio album by American rock band Aerosmith, released November 9, 1985. The release marked the return to the band of Joe Perry, who had left the group in 1979, and Brad Whitford, who had left the band in 1981. It was also the band's first album released by Geffen Records. It was intended as their "comeback" album, but it didn't live up to commercial expectations. In keeping with the title, all the text on the album (except for the catalog number and UPC) was written back-to-front and could be read normally by holding it up to a mirror. All but the original CD and cassette pressing flip the artwork, so it can be read without a mirror, and replaced the photo of an illusionist bending forks with one of the band, the band's logo also being prominent on the new cover. As a result, the original CD (which came housed in a longbox) is considered desirable by fans. All text inside the booklet of the first CD-pressing is also back-to-front. The title is a double entendre, referring both to illusions that are "done with mirrors," as well as members of the band quitting their drug use (such as cocaine, which is traditionally snorted off of a mirror). "Let The Music Do the Talking" was a new recording of the title track of the first album by The Joe Perry Project, with altered lyric and melody. Joey Kramer, who was a guest on VH1 Classic's That Metal Show, expressed his dislikes of the album, claiming that the band "never really finished it."

1987 Permanent Vacation
Permanent Vacation is the ninth studio album by American rock band Aerosmith, released in August 1987 by Geffen Records. The album marks a turning point in the band's career. It is their first album to employ professional songwriters, instead of featuring material solely composed by members of the band. It was also the first Aerosmith album to be promoted by heavy music video airplay on MTV. Though Done with Mirrors was intended to mark Aerosmith's comeback, Permanent Vacation is often considered their true comeback album, as it was the band's first truly popular album since their reunion. "Rag Doll," "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" and "Angel" all became major hit singles (all three songs charted in the Top 20) and helped Permanent Vacation become the band's most successful album in a decade. The album features their cover of "I'm Down", a piano-driven Beatles song that appeared as a b-side to their single "Help" in 1965. This was Aerosmith's second commercially-released Beatles cover, after "Come Together". In limited production, the original album cover for Permanent Vacation did not feature the yellow Aerosmith wings logo. Instead, the album jacket only featured the black background covered in the red "Permanent Vacation" hula girl print. The yellow Aerosmith wings logo was actually on the outside of the plastic case rather than the inner album liner. Permanent Vacation has sold over five million copies in the U.S. In the UK, it was the first Aerosmith album to attain both Silver (60,000 units sold) and Gold (100,000 units sold) certification by the British Phonographic Industry, achieving these in July 1989 and March 1990 respectively.

1989 Pump
Pump is the tenth album by American rock band Aerosmith, released in 1989. The album was remastered and reissued in 2001. Pump was widely acclaimed by both fans and critics upon its release. The album incorporates the use of keyboards and a horn section on many of the singles ("Love in an Elevator", "The Other Side"), and contains straightforward rockers ("F.I.N.E.*", "Young Lust"), the ballad "What It Takes", songs about issues such as incest and murder ("Janie's Got a Gun") and drug and alcohol abuse ("Monkey on My Back"), as well as a variety of instrumental interludes such as "Hoodoo" and "Dulcimer Stomp." The album has certified sales of seven million copies in the U.S. to date, and is tied with its successor Get a Grip as Aerosmith's second best-selling studio album (Toys in the Attic leads with eight million). It produced a variety of successes and "firsts" for the band including their first Grammy Award ("Janie's Got a Gun"). "Love in an Elevator" became the first Aerosmith song to hit #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Additionally, it is the only Aerosmith album to date to have three Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and three #1 singles on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The album was the fourth bestselling album of the year 1990. In the UK, it was the second Aerosmith album to be certified Silver (60,000 units sold) by the British Phonographic Industry, achieving this in September 1989. Pump was the second of three sequentially recorded Aerosmith albums to feature producer Bruce Fairbairn and engineers Mike Frazer and Ken Lomas at The Little Mountain Sound Studios. A video documentary on the recording, The Making of Pump, was released in 1994.

1993 Get A Grip
Get a Grip is the 11th studio album by American rock band Aerosmith, released in April 1993 by Geffen Records.[1] Get a Grip was the band's last studio album to be released by Geffen before they returned to Columbia Records. Get a Grip featured guests including Don Henley, who sang backup on "Amazing", and Lenny Kravitz, who offered backup vocals and collaboration to "Line Up". As on Permanent Vacation and Pump, this album featured numerous song collaborators from outside the band including: Desmond Child, Jim Vallance, Mark Hudson, Richie Supa, Taylor Rhodes, Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw. Get a Grip became Aerosmith's best-selling studio album worldwide, achieving sales of over 20 million copies, and is tied with Pump for their second best-selling album in the United States, selling over 7 million copies as of 1995. This also made it their third consecutive album with US sales of at least five million. Get a Grip won the band two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. In Allmusic review for Get a Grip, Stephen Thomas Erlewine said the album failed compared to Pump because he thinks the band was trying too hard to have a hit and it didn't have any depth to it, but he feels the album still "sounds good". Mark Coleman, for his Rolling Stone magazine review of Get a Grip, said he liked the title track and he compared the albums introduction, titled "Intro", to Steven Tyler and Joe Perry's collaboration with Run–D.M.C. on "Walk This Way", but feels that most of the album lacks "adventure" and is too "somber". In his interview he compared "Livin' on the Edge" to a Bon Jovi song and feels that a problem with the album comes from the outside songwriters/collaborators. Robert Christgau, however, feels on Get a Grip that they are trying many different things on the album and that they are really good at trying something new, like the song "Cryin'" and he gave it their best review since 1980's Greatest Hits. Ben Mitchell called the album "soft" and "shallow" but considered "Eat the Rich" and "Crazy" standout tracks.
