ru.wikipedia.org

AC/DC are an Australian rock band, formed in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Although the band is commonly classified as hard rock and are considered pioneers of heavy metal, they have always classified their music as rock and roll. To date they are one of the highest grossing bands of all time. AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975. Membership remained stable until bassist Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams in 1978 for the album Powerage. Within months of recording the album Highway to Hell, lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. The group briefly considered disbanding, but Scott's parents urged them to continue and hire a new vocalist. Ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was auditioned and selected to replace Scott. Later that year, the band released their highest selling album, and ultimately the highest-selling album by any band, Back in Black. The band's next album, For Those About to Rock We Salute You, was their first album to reach number one in the United States. AC/DC declined in popularity soon after drummer Phil Rudd was fired in 1983 and was replaced by future Dio drummer Simon Wright, though the band resurged in the early 1990s with the release of The Razors Edge. Phil Rudd returned in 1994 (after Chris Slade, who was with the band from 1990–1994, was asked to leave in favour of him) and contributed to the band's 1995 album Ballbreaker. Stiff Upper Lip was released in 2000 and was well received by critics. Since then, the band has stayed the same with the 1980-1983 lineup. The band's next album, Black Ice, was released on 20 October 2008. It was their biggest hit on the charts since For Those About to Rock, reaching #1 on all the charts eventually. AC/DC's newest album, Iron Man 2, soundtrack to the film, was released on 19 April 2010. As of 2010, AC/DC have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide, as of the releases of their latest albums, Black Ice and the Iron Man 2 soundtrack, including 71 million albums in the United States. Back in Black has sold an estimated 49 million units worldwide, making it the highest-selling album by any band and the second-highest-selling album in history, behind Thriller by Michael Jackson. The album has sold 22 million in the US alone, where it is the fifth-highest-selling album. AC/DC ranked fourth on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" and were named the seventh "Greatest Heavy Metal Band of All Time" by MTV. In 2004, AC/DC were ranked number 72 in the Rolling Stone list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

1976 High Voltage
Catalog: 82875866642
Ⓟ 1976, 2003 J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd. / © 1976 J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd.

High Voltage is the debut studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released on 17 February 1975. Six of the album's eight songs were written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Bon Scott. "Soul Stripper" was written by Young & Young, and "Baby, Please Don't Go" is a cover version of a Big Joe Williams song. It was originally released on Albert Productions in Australia, and has never been reissued by another label in this format. An international version of High Voltage, with a different tracklisting and cover art, was released on Atlantic Records in 1976. AC/DC was still developing its sound when High Voltage was recorded in November 1974, and Scott and the Young brothers were backed by a different rhythm section than the Mark Evans/Phil Rudd combination featured on their next three full-length studio recordings. In Clinton Walker's biography of Scott, Rob Bailey claims he and Peter Clack played on the album, but it doesn't make it clear if they played on it all, or on certain tracks. Clack and Bailey were live members of AC/DC at the time. According to Murray Engleheart's book AC/DC: Maximum Rock N Roll, bass duties were shared by Malcolm and older brother George, who also played live with the band infrequently, as well as Bailey. George may have also played some drums, along with Tony Currenti. Peter Clack and John Proud played on one track each. Malcolm and Angus trade-off lead guitar parts on "Soul Stripper" and "Show Business" and Malcolm plays the solo on "Little Lover".[2] George Young and Harry Vanda produced. The title and artwork were the suggestion of Chris Gilbey of Alberts. High Voltage led to the first of many AC/DC appearances on Australia's Countdown music program. The band's earliest appearances included a now-legendary live performance of "Baby, Please Don't Go" (featuring Scott dressed as a blonde schoolgirl) and a filmed performance of "Show Business." The album was recorded in 10 days in between gigs at Albert Studios in Sydney, Australia.
International release High Voltage (1976 album)
Released in May 1976, and featuring a different cover, the international version of High Voltage was a compilation of the original Australian edition and its follow-up, the Australia-only T.N.T. album. Despite its title, the second High Voltage features only two tracks from the original: "She's Got Balls" and "Little Lover".
Most of the songs on this version of High Voltage were not released outside Australia until 1984, when "Baby, Please Don't Go", "You Ain't Got a Hold on Me", "Soul Stripper", and "Show Business" were included on the '74 Jailbreak EP, released in the United States, Canada, and Japan in October 1984. "Stick Around" and "Love Song" were later released on the compilation Backtracks on November 10, 2009. "Show Business" also appeared as the B-side on the American promo-only "Jailbreak" single. It has evolved from an older song called "Sunset Strip", written by Malcolm Young and the band's original singer Dave Evans, revamped for the album with new lyrics by Bon Scott. "Love Song" evolved from an unrecorded song called "Fell In Love", also written by Malcolm Young and Evans. This earlier version of the song had different lyrics, and the finished lyrics as heard on the album were added by Scott. "Love Song" was released as the album's first single (under the title "Love Song (O Jene)") and was backed with "Baby Please Don't Go", but radio preferred the flip. "Stick Around" was about Scott's inability to hold onto a lover for more than one night. "She's Got Balls" was written about Scott's ex-wife Irene. It was the first AC/DC song for which he wrote lyrics, originally ad-libbed during his first live performance with them. "Little Lover" came from an older song that Malcolm Young had first composed when he was 14. Scott's lyrics are ambiguous, but he later claimed they were about Angus.

AC/DC: 17 Album Box Set ● Albert Productions Australia 2006

1976 Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Catalog: 82876866552
1976, 2003 Ⓟ J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd. / © 1976 J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap is the third studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in 1976. All songs were written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Bon Scott. It was originally released in Australia on Albert Productions on 20 September 1976. A modified international edition was later released on Atlantic Records in November 1976. The album has been certified 6x Platinum in the U.S.A., which means that it has sold at least 6 million copies, becoming the third highest sold album by AC/DC in the U.S. after Highway to Hell (seven times platinum) and Back in Black (22+).
Overview
Following up on the preceding Australian album, 1975's T.N.T., AC/DC delivered another recording with a number of fan-favourite songs, including the title track, "Squealer", "Problem Child", and others. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap also contains some controversial lyrics. For example "Big Balls" lyrics uses double entendres, referring the title phrase to costume dance balls and to testicles. The single "Jailbreak" preceded the album's release in Australia and the UK. After the album's release, the single for "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" was released in Australia in October 1976, in the UK in January 1977, and in the US in 1981 (when the album was finally released there). Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap also led to more AC/DC appearances on Australia's Countdown music program, following those in support of High Voltage and T.N.T. These appearances included a live performance of the album's title track, as well as a music video for "Jailbreak". A song titled "I'm a Rebel" was recorded during this album's sessions in 1976, with music and lyrics written by Angus and Malcolm Young's older brother, Alex Young. This song was never released by AC/DC and remains in Albert Productions' vaults. German band Accept later released it as a single and named their second album after the song.
Influences
On the Live At Donington DVD, Angus and Malcolm Young explain that the concept of this album was to make it a Humphrey Bogart-esque mystery scenario.
Furthermore, the term "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" is a homage to the cartoon Beany and Cecil, which Angus Young watched when he was a child. One of the cartoon's characters was named Dishonest John, and carried a business card that read, "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Holidays, Sundays and Special Rates."
Sales
The album was released in April 1981 in the US and reached #3 on the Billboard charts. Currently, the album is certified 6xPlatinum, selling 6 million copies
International release
The international edition of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, released November 1976, is considerably different from the original Australian edition, and features a different cover and track order. It was not released in the United States until April 1981. On this album, "R.I.P. (Rock in Peace)" and "Jailbreak" (featured on the Australian version) were replaced by "Rocker" (from 1975's T.N.T.) and "Love at First Feel", the latter being one of only two tracks from international AC/DC albums not available on the band's Australian albums. (The other is "Cold Hearted Man", released on European pressings of Powerage.) Conversely, several songs available on Australian AC/DC albums did not see overseas release until more than thirty years later. However, "Love at First Feel" was released in Australia as a single in January 1977. Though the international album was released by Atlantic Records in Europe in 1976, it was not picked up for U.S. release at the time. Following the American success of Highway To Hell in late 1979, copies of the album began to appear as imports in the U.S. Some of these imports were the original Australian edition on Albert Productions. However, Atlantic Records also pressed the international version in Australia, and many of these copies were also exported to the U.S. Strong demand for both import versions in the wake of the even greater success of Back In Black eventually led the U.S. division of Atlantic to finally authorize an official U.S. release in April 1981, which went straight to #3 on the Billboard album charts. Two songs on the international album were edited from the full length versions on the original Australian album. The full length "Dirty Deeds..." has the title of the song chanted four times starting at 3:09, but on the edited version the chant is heard only twice. "Ain't No Fun..." lasted 7:29 on the Australian album but was faded out early to 6:57 on the international version. However, both these full length versions were restored on the 1994 Atco Records remastered CD of the international album. The most recent 2003 CD edition by Epic Records goes back to the edited versions, as originally on the 1976 and 1981 international vinyl editions. The uncut versions of both songs were released on the 2009 box set Backtracks. On the original version of "Rocker", included on the Australian T.N.T. album, the song lasts 2:55 and cuts out abruptly as the guitar riff hits its peak. But all international editions of the "Dirty Deeds" album have a slightly shorter version where the song fades out at 2:50 before the cut. The Australian version of the album was briefly released in the United Kingdom, but only on the original vinyl printings in that country. "Jailbreak" was included on AC/DC's '74 Jailbreak EP, released in October 1984 in the United States, Canada, and Japan. "R.I.P. (Rock In Peace)" finally saw international release as part of the compilation Backtracks, which was released on November 10, 2009.
• Most editions of this album contain the edited versions of the title track and "Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round to Be a Millionaire)." The 1994 remastered CD on Atco Records contains the full-length Australian versions of both songs.
• The track "Rocker" was originally released on T.N.T. in 1975 in a slightly longer version without the fade out.
• The track "Ride On" also appears on the soundtrack Who Made Who for the Stephen King movie Maximum Overdrive.

AC/DC: 17 Album Box Set ● Albert Productions Australia 2006

1977 Let There Be Rock
Catalog: 82876866672
19737, 2003 Ⓟ J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd. / © 1977 J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd.

Let There Be Rock is the fourth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in March 1977. All songs were written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Bon Scott. It was originally released in Australia on Albert Productions. A modified international edition was released on Atlantic Records in June 1977.
Overview
Let There Be Rock was also the last AC/DC recording to feature bassist Mark Evans, who previously played on T.N.T. (1975) and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976). On 3 April 1977, AC/DC filmed a live performance of "Dog Eat Dog" for Australia's Countdown. In July 1977, the band further promoted Let There Be Rock by filming a music video for the album's title track. Recorded in a church in Sydney's Surrey Hills known as the Kirk Gallery, it featured Scott as a priest and the rest of the band as altar boys. The album cover features fretting image of Buffalo's Chris Turner's fingers on a guitar neck. This edition was eventually repackaged with the international version's cover, marking the first time an Australian AC/DC album cover was matched to its corresponding international edition.
In 1980, AC/DC released a live concert motion picture titled AC/DC: Let There Be Rock. In 1997, an expanded audio recording of this concert was released on CD as Let There Be Rock: The Movie, on discs 2-3 of the Bonfire box set.
International release
As with AC/DC's previous albums, there are differences between Let There Be Rock's Australian and ultimate international editions. The original vinyl version of the album made available for international release contained the same tracks as the Australian release. However, Atlantic Records removed the racy "Crabsody In Blue" from the later international version. It was replaced with a shortened version of "Problem Child" from the Australian version of the album Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, released in September 1976. "Crabsody In Blue" was later released on the box set Backtracks, which was released in 2009. All international CD releases contain the modified track listing. The international version's cover also marked the debut of the band's logo, designed by Gerard Huerta. The photograph used for the cover was taken on 19 March 1977 at the Kursaal Ballroom, Southend, Essex, UK.
• All songs composed by Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Bon Scott.
• Most CD releases feature this track listing along with a slightly longer version of "Go Down".
• Track 5, "Problem Child", was originally released on Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap in 1976. This is a shortened version of the original.
• For the original vinyl release, in all markets other than the USA and Japan, "Crabsody in Blue" was featured instead of "Problem Child".

AC/DC: 17 Album Box Set ● Albert Productions Australia 2006

1978 Powerage
Catalog: 82876866452
1978, 2003 Ⓟ J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd. / © 1978 J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd.

Powerage is the fifth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in May 1978. It is also AC/DC's fourth international studio album. All songs were written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott. It was originally released on Atlantic Records, and reached No. 133 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart in the US, eventually going platinum there. Powerage was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC remasters series.
Overview
Powerage is the first AC/DC album to be released nearly simultaneously in both Australian and international markets, and the first to use just one cover image for both. It was also the first to feature the same track listing on all versions, with the exception of the European vinyl edition (specifically, the first UK pressing of the LP). This version included "Cold Hearted Man", a song that was not previously released, and would not be released on any other AC/DC album until 2009's AC/DC Backtracks box set, but which became more widely available through the box set of Bon Scott-era vinyl LP albums in 1987, the first reissue of a set first released in 1981. The first UK pressing also includes different mixes than all later versions, most markedly on "Down Payment Blues" (which excludes the bluesy coda heard on later pressings) and "What's Next to the Moon," which omits solos and backing vocals heard on later pressings. Within the 1987 box set, the song was packaged on a single sided 12-inch single. In some territories, Powerage omitted "Rock 'n' Roll Damnation". This was due to a rushed job in getting the LP to pressing plants in time for the release date, hence "Rock 'n' Roll Damnation" (which was not yet completed) was omitted, "Cold Hearted Man" was added, and the rushed mixes are different than the 'finished' mixes that were thereafter used. Powerage marked the studio debut of bassist Cliff Williams. It was the band's last Bon Scott-era studio release to feature production work by Harry Vanda and George Young.
Cover versions & Legacy
"Sin City" was covered by the '80s heavy metal band Twisted Sister, on their album Twisted Forever, in which Dee Snider changes a lyric: "Ain't got a hope in hell, that's Bon Scott's belief." The song has also been covered by the punk rock band The Offspring, Ugly Kid Joe and Bruce Dickinson. "Down Payment Blues" served as the theme song for comedian Marc Maron's 'WTF' podcast in 2009. "Kicked In The Teeth" was covered by Nashville Pussy on their album Eat More Pussy and also available on the bonus CD of Let Them Eat Pussy. "Gone Shootin'" was featured in the movie Beavis and Butt-head Do America. In 2007, a studio version of the song, with Brian Johnson on vocals, was included on the second disc of Plug Me In. The footage was taken from a recording session in 1996 at London's VH1 Studios. Don Jamieson from That Metal Show named the album his favorite of all time, and commented on how "'Sin City' epitomized what Bon Scott loved to do." "Sin City" is Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry's favorite AC/DC song. "Riff Raff" is frequently played on Guns 'n' Roses/Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash's iheartradio channel, "Slash FM", citing it as one of his favorite AC/DC songs.
• Some cassette copies, such as the original Canadian issue, had an alternate track listing. For example, "Sin City" was the first song on side 1, while "Rock 'n' Roll Damnation" was the first song on side 2. All other tracks appear in the order of the original Australian/US release.
• All songs composed by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott.
• Initial editions of the European (UK) LP release featured a different mix of the album. It had a 'harder' sound than the later version, with small variations in vocals, guitar tracks, or both, and occasionally extra sections and longer or shorter fades. Some versions omitted "Rock 'n' Roll Damnation" from the track-list, but all included "Cold Hearted Man," albeit in a different sequence than on subsequent pressings. One of the most marked differences is the exclusion of the bluesy coda on "Down Payment Blues." The first cassette issue of the album also features this mix.
• The album was later remixed for the American market, with the new mix replacing the original European mix, and becoming the global standard. This mix is still used on all AC/DC Powerage CD releases today.

Catalog: 82876866592
1978, 2003 Ⓟ J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd. / © 1978 J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd.

If You Want Blood You've Got It is the first live album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, originally released in the U.S.A. on 21 November 1978. All songs were written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott. The album was recorded live during the 1978 Powerage Tour and contains live versions of songs from AC/DC's T.N.T., Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock, and Powerage albums. It is the last Bon Scott-era AC/DC album produced by Harry Vanda and George Young, who also produced the band's first five studio releases. The album was ranked number two on Classic Rock magazine's readers' poll of "50 Greatest Live Albums Ever".
Track notes
AC/DC's concert at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow on 30 April 1978, Scotland was used for the bulk of the recorded material that appeared on the album. It can be clearly heard during "The Jack" when Bon Scott sang "Any virgins in Glasgow?". This concert will also be remembered for the encore when AC/DC came back on stage dressed in the Scottish Football strip. The songs "Dog Eat Dog" and "Fling Thing" were also performed during the night of the concert but eventually removed from the album. "Rocker" was also performed, but the guitar solo performed in the middle of the song was cut out. The live rendition of "Dog Eat Dog" was released as the b-side of the single "Whole Lotta Rosie/Dog Eat Dog" in November 1978. It was later released worldwide on the 2009 box set Backtracks A song with the same title, "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)," appeared on AC/DC's next album, Highway to Hell, and later on their soundtrack collaboration for the film Iron Man 2.
Concert footage
• The whole concert was shot in film but the complete footage has never been released. Eventually, "Riff Raff" and "Fling Thing/Rocker" segments were made available on the AC/DC Family Jewels DVD. Footage was also used on the "Rock 'n' Roll Damnation" promotional clip also available in Family Jewels. Also more concert footage was later made available on the Highway To Hell Live Concert DVD. More segments from the concert (the songs "Rock 'n' Roll Damnation," "Dog Eat Dog," and "Let There Be Rock") were made available on the DVD Plug Me In, released in 2007, a couple months after the previously mentioned Highway To Hell DVD. The segment "Bad Boy Boogie" was included on the Bonus disc on the three-disc edition of the DVD.
• Despite the fact that there was no official release of the concert, there is a DVD available called "Let There Be Rock" from the German FNM Label. (Falcon Neue Medien) (4:3 PAL)It contains the footage of a broadcast from BBC Scotland TV who broadcasted the concert. On the DVD appears 37 minutes of the concert: (titles as printed on DVD) 01 Intro / 02 Riff Raff / 03 Rock 'N' Roll Damnation / 04 Dog Eat Dog / 05 Bad Boy Boogie / 06 Let There Be Rock / 07 Rocker

AC/DC: 17 Album Box Set ● Albert Productions Australia 2006

1979 Highway To Hell
Catalog: 82876866682
1979, 2003 Ⓟ J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd. / © 1979 J.Albert & Son (Pty) Ltd.

Highway to Hell is the sixth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in July 1979. It is also AC/DC's fifth international studio album. It was the last album featuring Bon Scott, who died early the following year from over-consumption of alcohol. It was originally released by Albert Productions, who licensed the album to Atlantic Records for release outside of Australia, and was then re-released by Epic Records in 2003 as part of the AC/DC remasters series. On 25 May 2006, Highway to Hell was certified 7x platinum by the RIAA. In 2003, the album was ranked number 199 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Overview
Highway to Hell is the last AC/DC album recorded with lead vocalist Bon Scott before his death on 19 February 1980. The album featured such songs as "Highway to Hell", "Touch Too Much", "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" and "Shot Down in Flames" which have become fan favorites and regular songs in their setlist during their live shows. Highway to Hell became AC/DC's first album to break the U.S. top 100, eventually reaching No. 17, and it propelled AC/DC into the top ranks of hard rock acts. With Highway to Hell reaching No. 17 in the U.S. market this would be the first solid success that AC/DC would achieve in the U.S. The final words spoken by Scott on the album are "Shazbot, na-nu na-nu," phrases used on the then-popular American sitcom, Mork and Mindy, by lead character Mork (a visiting extraterrestrial played by Robin Williams). The phrase would end the song "Night Prowler" and also close the album. Highway to Hell was the first AC/DC album not produced by Harry Vanda and George Young. Pre-production of the album began in January 1979 with demos cut at Albert Studios in Sydney, Australia, where they met the intended producer, Eddie Kramer. Kramer was fired before a single track had been completed, and Robert John "Mutt" Lange was brought in to replace him. The change proved to be fortuitous, and the album was the band's biggest yet. Lange would go on to produce the band's next two albums and biggest sellers, Back in Black and For Those About to Rock We Salute You. The album was recorded during sessions in February 1979 at Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida, and March–April at Roundhouse Studios in London, England. In Australia, Highway to Hell was released with a slightly different album cover, featuring flames and a drawing of a bass guitar neck superimposed over the same group photo used on the international cover. Also, the AC/DC logo is a darker shade of maroon, but the accents are a bit lighter. Additionally, the East German release had different and much plainer designs on the front and back, apparently because the authorities were not happy with the sleeve as released elsewhere. Two songs from the album, "Highway to Hell" and "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" are included on the soundtrack album for Iron Man 2, with the former also being played during the final scenes of the movie. The song "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" is featured in the movie The Longest Yard. The song "Walk All Over You" is featured in the movie Grown Ups, also an Adam Sandler movie.
Controversy
In June 1985, a highly publicized murder case began revolving around Richard Ramírez, who was responsible for several brutal killings in Los Angeles. Nicknamed the "Night Stalker," Ramírez was a fan of AC/DC, particularly the song "Night Prowler". Police also claimed that Ramirez was wearing an AC/DC shirt and left an AC/DC hat at one of the crime scenes. During the trial, Ramírez often muttered "Hail Satan" and showed off the pentagram carved into his palm. This brought extremely bad publicity on AC/DC, whose concerts and albums faced protests by parents in the Los Angeles area. On VH1's Behind the Music on AC/DC, the band maintained that the song had been given a murderous connotation by Ramírez, but is actually about a boy sneaking into his girlfriend's bedroom at night while her parents are asleep.

AC/DC: 17 Album Box Set ● Albert Productions Australia 2006

1980 Back In Black
Catalog: 82876866492
Ⓟ 1980, 2003 Leidseplein Presse B.V. / © 1980 Leidseplein Presse B.V.

Back in Black is an album by Australian rock band AC/DC. It is the seventh Australian and sixth internationally released studio album by the band. Released on 25 July 1980, Back in Black was the first AC/DC album recorded without former lead singer Bon Scott, who died on 19 February 1980 at the age of 33, and was dedicated to him. The band considered disbanding following Scott's death, but they ultimately decided to continue and shortly thereafter hired Brian Johnson as their new lead singer and lyricist. Producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who had previously worked with AC/DC on Highway to Hell, was again brought in to produce. The recordings were made at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, and Electric Lady Studios in New York, where the album was also mixed. The album was remastered and re-released in 1994, then again in the Bonfire box set in 1997, and as part of the AC/DC remasters series in 2003 by George Marino. In addition, a Dualdisc version was released in 2004, featuring the album in enhanced LPCM Stereo format and the video documentary The Story of Back in Black. The album has sold an estimated 49 million copies worldwide to date, making it the second highest selling album of all time, and the best selling hard rock or heavy metal album, as well as the best selling album ever released by a band. On 13 December 2007, the RIAA certified it 22× Multi Platinum, recognising sales of 22 million in the United States.
Overview
After the success of their previous album, Highway to Hell, Bon Scott and company began developing a new album. Some of the songwriting had been completed when Scott died unexpectedly from alcohol poisoning. When Brian Johnson became lead singer, the group decided to finish the songwriting they had started under Scott, with the Young brothers writing the music and lyrics written by Johnson. It contains some of AC/DC's biggest hits, including "Hells Bells", "Shoot to Thrill", "You Shook Me All Night Long", and the title track "Back in Black". The final song on the album, "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" reached number 15 on the UK Singles Chart, the highest placing of any song on the album. The album was recorded at the Compass Point Studios in The Bahamas. It was not easy for the band, as their equipment was initially held up by customs, and the island was overcome with tropical storms that wreaked havoc on the studio’s electricity. Johnson's reported having trouble adjusting to the environment, and even referenced the bad weather on the opening lines of "Hells Bells" ("I'm a rolling thunder, pourin’ rain. I'm comin' down like a hurricane. My lightning's flashing across the sky. You're only young but you're gonna die."). According to Angus Young the album's all-black cover was a "sign of mourning" for Scott, as black is the traditional Western colour of mourning. Atlantic Records disagreed with the cover, but accepted if the band put a grey outline around the AC/DC logo.It is AC/DC's best selling album, the second best-selling album of all time, and the biggest selling album by any band, with more than 49 million copies sold worldwide. In 2006 Back in Black was certified by the Recording Industry Association of America as the fifth best-selling album in the United States, with 22 million copies sold. Despite its massive commercial success, it is not AC/DC's highest charting album in the U.S, peaking at number 4; their next album, For Those About to Rock We Salute You, hit number 1 in 1981, as did the band's 2008 album Black Ice. However, it hit number 1 on the UK charts. The song "Let Me Put My Love into You" was rated number 6 in the Parents Music Resource Center Filthy Fifteen list in 1985.
Reception
Critical response to the album was overwhelmingly positive; it is present on many "best of" lists. Commercial response was even more positive. Selling over 22 million copies in the United States and 49 million copies worldwide, it is the highest selling album by any band and the highest selling hard rock album of all time. Michael Jackson's Thriller is the only album that has sold more copies.
Legacy
In 1989, it was ranked number 26 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Albums of the '80s. The song "Back in Black" was ranked number 187 on the same magazine's list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. VH1 also rated Back in Black one of the greatest comeback albums of all time and number 2 on the greatest hard rock albums. In 2003, the album was ranked number 73 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In 2006, Q magazine placed the album at number 9 in its list of the 40 Best Albums of the '80s. It was listed at No. 2 in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums, in October 2010.
Sales
The album is the second best-selling album worldwide, behind only Michael Jackson's Thriller, and the best selling album ever made by a band. The album was successful around the world, but never reached number one on the Billboard 200, making the 22x Platinum distinction, denoting 22 million albums sold, especially unique and making it the fourth highest-selling album in the U.S. The album stayed in the Billboard chart for 131 weeks. The album, however, did reach number 1 in Australia and the United Kingdom. In April 2010, the album re-entered the Billboard charts at number 181.
Music videos
The band recorded six music videos for the album which were recorded in Breda, in the Netherlands. The songs they used for the six videos were "Back in Black", "Hells Bells", "What Do You Do for Money Honey", "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Let Me Put My Love into You" and "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", and were basic performance videos. Most of these remained officially unreleased until "Back in Black", "Hells Bells", "What Do You Do for Money Honey", and "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", as well as the 1986 video for "You Shook Me All Night Long" which was filmed for the Who Made Who album, were released on the Family Jewels DVD. The original video for "You Shook Me All Night Long", however, was later released on the promo DVD Back in Black: The Videos and on the Backtracks box sets. "Let Me Put My Love into You" still remains unreleased but can be viewed on YouTube.

AC/DC: 17 Album Box Set ● Albert Productions Australia 2006

1981 For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)
Catalog: 82876866622
Ⓟ 1981, 2003 Leidseplein Presse B.V. / © 1981 Leidseplein Presse B.V.

For Those About to Rock We Salute You is the eighth album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in 1981. The album was a follow-up to their highly successful album Back in Black. For Those About to Rock has sold over 4 million copies in the US. It was AC/DC's first and only No. 1 album in the US until the release of Black Ice in October 2008. In their original 1981 review, Rolling Stone magazine declared it to be their best album. The album was the third and final produced for the band by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The name of the album was inspired by a book Angus Young read, entitled For Those About to Die, We Salute You, about Roman gladiators. The gladiators' final words to the emperor were "Ave Caesar morituri te salutant" - or, "Hail Caesar, we who are about to die, salute you." The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC remasters series.
Notes
Recorded in a rehearsal space on the outskirts of Paris. The band had found it difficult to come up with their desired sound while on their previous rehearsing location (an abandoned factory in France). The album became AC/DC's first US No. 1 album. After its release the band embarked on its first arena tour of North America (late 1981 through early 1982). For the title track, large cannons were placed on stage, set to go off in accordance with the song on the album. In Spain, early copies of the album featured a sleeve with the colours reversed, i.e., a gold cannon on a black background. The title track's popularity was such that in every live concert AC/DC has done thereafter, the song is performed as an encore and is always accompanied by firing cannons on stage. It was re-released in 2003 in CD format. That edition consisted of digitally remastered material from the original masters. The National Aeronautics Space Administration ( NASA ) used this song as a wake-up call for their STS-98 mission on day 7. This is the only AC/DC studio album where the group filmed no promotional videos.
Sales
The album's sales, although good, paled in comparison to sales of Back in Black. Nevertheless, the album became the first AC/DC album to ever hit No. 1 in the United States on the Billboard chart and stayed on the top for three weeks. This is the first of two AC/DC album to make it to No. 1 on the Billboard chart, the second being Black Ice. The album held this position for three weeks. To date, in the U.S., it has achieved 4 million sales. In the United Kingdom, the album's two singles, "Let's Get It Up" and "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)", made it to No. 13 and No. 15, respectively. The album has sold an approximated 7 million copies worldwide, making it one of the highest sold AC/DC albums worldwide.

Ⓟ 1983, 2003 Leidseplein Presse B.V. / © 1983 Leidseplein Presse B.V.

Flick of the Switch is the ninth album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, recorded shortly after their European Tour at the beginning of 1983. The album was originally released in the United States on 15 August 1983. The album was self-produced by AC/DC and reached No. 4 in UK and No. 15 in the US, and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. On the recorded commentary on the album for the Live at Donington DVD, the band states the album was an attempt to make the band raw again, and while they were happy with the result, the album became known as one of their biggest flops, however Malcolm and Angus still consider the album an achievement and still stand by it. After having problems with rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, drummer Phil Rudd was fired midway through the album's recording sessions, although he had completed his drum parts. Session drummer B.J. Wilson was hired to help complete the recording if needed, but his contributions were not used. The drum position was eventually filled by future Dio drummer Simon Wright. Wright appeared in the videos for "Flick of the Switch", "Nervous Shakedown", and "Guns For Hire". He also toured for the album, and is seen in the pro-shot video recordings from that period. Rudd returned to the band in 1994.The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC remasters series.

Fly on the Wall is the tenth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, originally released on 28 June 1985. The band's second and last self-produced album, it was also the first AC/DC album since the original Australian version of High Voltage not to include drummer Phil Rudd, who was replaced by Simon Wright. Like their previous album, Flick of the Switch, Angus and Malcolm Young chose to produce in order to capture the rawness and simplicity of their early works in a time when pop-oriented glam metal became popular. The album was not well received by critics and only sold one million copies upon its release, as opposed to the success of their previous albums, Back in Black and For Those About to Rock We Salute You. The singles "Shake Your Foundations" and "Sink the Pink", however, are seen as standouts from the album, and both songs were later included on the band's soundtrack album Who Made Who for Stephen King's film Maximum Overdrive. A video featuring the band performing five of the album's songs was also released in the summer of 1985. The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC Remasters series.

Who Made Who is a hard rock album by Australian band AC/DC, released in 1986 as the soundtrack to the Stephen King movie Maximum Overdrive. King would allude to the album's title song in the 1990 revised and expanded edition of his novel The Stand, where a survivor of the novel's flu pandemic changes the lyrics to "Flu made who." Three tracks on the album - "Who Made Who" and the instrumentals "D.T." and "Chase the Ace" - were newly written and recorded by AC/DC. The rest were taken from the band's previous albums. Only one song, "Ride On," is from the Bon Scott era; all of the others feature Brian Johnson. The album reached #11 in the UK and #33 in the US, and has sold 5 million copies in the USA. Who Made Who was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC remasters series. Along with the album, the band released a video tape which contained music videos for the songs "Who Made Who", "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Shake Your Foundations", "Hells Bells", and footage from a live performance of "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" which was filmed in Detroit in 1983.

1988 Blow Up Your Video
Catalog: 82876866432
Ⓟ 1988, 2003 Leidseplein Presse B.V. / © 1988 Leidseplein Presse B.V.

Blow Up Your Video is an album by the Australian hard rock band AC/DC, first released on 18 January 1988. It was later released in the U.S. on 1 February 1988. The album was recorded at the Miraval Studio in Le Val, France, in between August and September 1987. The album was produced by Harry Vanda and George Young, the production team behind the band's early albums. This was also the final studio album to feature drummer Simon Wright. Although he wrote all the lyrics on the album, it would be the last on which Brian Johnson was credited as a songwriter (all songs on subsequent albums were written by the Young brothers). The title of the album was taken from a line in the song "That's The Way I Wanna Rock 'n' Roll". The album was the band's biggest-selling album of new material since For Those About to Rock We Salute You, being certified Platinum in the US.[1] Blow Up Your Video reached No. 2 in the UK and No. 12 in the US. However, the band played four tracks from it on the subsequent world tour, "Heatseeker", "That's the Way I Wanna Rock 'n' Roll", "Nick of Time", and "Go Zone" - "Heatseeker" and "That's The Way I Wanna Rock 'n' Roll" are also featured on AC/DC Live Collector's Edition. "Heatseeker" was a top 20 hit in the United Kingdom. The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC remasters series. During the Blow Up Your Video world tour, Malcolm Young decided not to participate in touring, in order to get over an alcohol addiction. Filling in for him was Malcolm and Angus' nephew, Stevie Young, although Malcolm is present in the Blow Up Your Video promotional videos. The album was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental in 1989, but lost to Jethro Tull's Crest of a Knave. Outtakes from the recording sessions include the unreleased songs "Let It Loose" and "Alright Tonight", as well as other versions of "Heatseeker", and "That's the Way I Wanna Rock 'n' Roll". Two additional songs, "Snake Eye" and "Borrowed Time", were recorded but only released on the 12-inch single versions of "Heatseeker" and "That's the Way I Wanna Rock 'n' Roll" respectively. "Snake Eye" was also included on the 3-inch CD-single for "Heatseeker". The song "Down On The Borderline" was recorded, but not released until 1990, as the B-side of the Australian "Moneytalks" single in 7-inch, 12-inch and CD-single formats. All three of these songs were later included on Backtracks in 2009. Demo tracks for the songs "Let it Loose" and "Alright Tonight" were stolen and bootlegged, and therefore, omitted from the final album cut.

AC/DC: 17 Album Box Set ● Albert Productions Australia 2006

1990 The Razors Edge
Catalog: 82876866662
Ⓟ 1990, 2003 Leidseplein Presse B.V. / © 1990 Leidseplein Presse B.V.

The Razors Edge is the 13th Australian and 12th international studio album by hard rockers AC/DC, released on September 24, 1990. It is the only studio album to feature drummer Chris Slade, and includes "Thunderstruck" and "Moneytalks," which are among AC/DC's most well-known tracks. The album reached No. 2 on the United States Billboard 200 and No. 4 in the United Kingdom. A smash commercial success that returned the band to the popularity of its glory years between the mid-1970s and early 1980s. The album has been certified quintuple platinum (5 million copies sold) in the US, and was re-released in 2003 as part of AC/DC's remasters series. The album was produced by Bruce Fairbairn. Malcolm Young, having completed his rehabilitation for alcoholism, once again played rhythm guitar and co-wrote (with his brother Angus) all the songs on the album.
Background
The band recorded Blow Up Your Video (1988) with their original producers, Harry Vanda and George Young. It was a commercial success and sold more copies than the previous two studio releases combined. The Blow Up Your Video World Tour began in February 1988, in Perth, Australia. That April, following live appearances across Europe, Malcolm Young announced that he was taking time off from touring, principally to begin recovery from his alcoholism.
Another member of the Young family, their nephew, Stevie Young, temporarily took Malcolm's place on rhythm guitar. Following the tour, drummer Simon Wright left the group to work on the upcoming Dio album Lock Up the Wolves, and was replaced by session veteran Chris Slade. Lead singer Brian Johnson was unavailable for several months while finalising his divorce, so the Young brothers wrote all the songs for the next album, a practice they continued for all subsequent releases through Black Ice in 2008. The new album, The Razors Edge, was recorded in Vancouver, Canada, and was mixed and engineered by Mike Fraser and produced by Bruce Fairbairn, who had previously worked with Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. It is the only studio album to feature Slade on drums. Released on September 21, 1990, it was a major comeback for the band, and included the hits "Thunderstruck" and "Are You Ready", which reached No. 5 and No. 16 respectively on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart, and "Moneytalks", which peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went multi-platinum (5 million copies sold) and reached the US top ten. Malcolm Young, having completed his rehabilitation for alcoholism, once again played rhythm guitar. Several shows on the Razors Edge Tour were recorded for the 1992 live album, titled Live. Live was produced by Fairbairn, and is considered one of the best live albums of the 1990s.[5] It was during this tour that AC/DC headlined the Monsters of Rock show, which was released on DVD as Live at Donington.
Tour
With the release of The Razors Edge, AC/DC undertook a world tour, possibly the most publicised tour they had ever done. The success of the tour was fueled by the crowd-pleasing songs, such as "Thunderstruck", "Moneytalks", "Fire Your Guns", "The Razors Edge", and "Are You Ready", which were also included on the AC/DC Live Collector's Edition album. During the Australian leg of the tour, the band was supported by the controversial Sydney band Candy Harlots. Members of AC/DC were extremely impressed with the band's performance, despite the fact that it was only their fifteenth show since the then new singer Aiz Lynch had joined.
Sales
The album peaked No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts and stayed there for 77 consecutive weeks. The album also reached No. 4 on the UK charts. The album gave AC/DC its popularity back. Currently, the album has sold 5 million in the U.S., certifying it at 5x Platinum. The album has sold approximately 10 to 12 million copies worldwide, making it the third highest selling AC/DC album (after Highway to Hell and Back in Black and ahead of Who Made Who).

1995 Ballbreaker

Ⓟ 1995, 2004 Leidseplein Presse B.V. / © 1995 Leidseplein Presse B.V.

Ballbreaker is the 13th studio album by the Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in September 1995. It was the band's first studio album in five years, since The Razors Edge (1990). The album featured the return of former drummer Phil Rudd, who had been fired from the band in 1983 as a result of drinking and drug problems and a fight with founding rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young. The album was produced by the prolific producer Rick Rubin. Rubin had briefly worked with the band in 1993 to produce the song/single "Big Gun," for the soundtrack to the movie Last Action Hero. Production started at the Record Plant Studios in New York City, but the band became dissatisfied with the sound there and moved to Los Angeles' Ocean Way Studios. Two weeks into the U.S. leg of the Ballbreaker World Tour, four gigs were cancelled so that Brian Johnson could attend his father's funeral. During the tour, MTV cartoon characters Beavis and Butthead appeared in the intro during concerts. Five of the album's songs were played live, 'Hard As a Rock', 'Boogie Man', 'Cover You In Oil', 'Hail Caesar', and 'Ballbreaker'. Ballbreaker was re-released in 2005 as part of the AC/DC remasters series. The album is currently certified Double Platinum by the RIAA in the US, for sales in excess of 2,000,000.

Присоединяюсь к комментарию ниже, но думаю стоит определиться: качать или нет?
Скажите, в чем отличие от оригинальных альбомов? Бонусы? Лайвы?
