Изобилие на обложке пластинки не бутафорское — музыкальных удовольствий, инструментальных красот и жирностей Harum здесь приготовили немало. Альбом последовал за выходом коммерчески самых успешных работ группы — «Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra» и «Grand Hotel». Пресыщенность «голландской» живописи, воплощенной в форме плотоядного натюрморта, характеризовала некую мечту о сытости, но она оказалась лишь погоней за ускользающей птицей удачи. Предыдущая номерная пластинка, «Grand Hotel», так и осталась самой удачной для этого состава, и главной ее особенностью была замена гитариста Робина Трауэра на Мика Грэбэма. Грэбэм и тут играет хорошо, бодро, мясисто и напористо — от него идет специфический дух музицирования 70-х, ощущение травоядного монстра, уже будто умирающего, и словно подставляющего наливной бочок под зубы растущего панк-рока. Альбом « Exotic Birds and Fruit » очень мелодичен, но как-то странно мелодичен. От кабацкой плясовой «Beyond the Pale» до спокойной нежности «The Idol», эта музыка достойна лучших примеров, но все эти примеры либо остались в прошлом десятилетии, либо еще не появились. В итоге альбом — переходный, и в контексте предыдущих работ сравним с пиром накануне чумы. Это настоящий готический поп-рок, классическая смесь блюза и мистики.

Universal Records is about to uncork a reissue campaign on Nov. 21 that will give Rush fans a few more 5.1 digital surround sound reboots of albums from the band’s classic Mercury Records catalog.The ‘Sector’ Rush reissues will collect all 15 Mercury-era Rush releases in three separate sets, each containing five albums, with a total of 18 discs overall. All of the albums have been freshly remastered and formatted with packaging that mimics the original vinyl LP. Additionally, updated booklets for each release will contain previously unseen photographs along with the original credits and album lyrics. All three sets will be available separately and when put together, they combine to form a Rush CD “road case.” The real meat of these new reissues though will be the brand new 5.1 versions of three signature Rush albums - ‘Fly By Night,’ ‘A Farewell To Kings’ and ‘Signals.’ There’s one hitch, though - the three new releases will be divided up as bonus DVD discs, packaged one per volume across the three volumes of ‘Sector’ reissues.

В 1973 году английская группа Procol Harum выпускает одно из лучших своих творений альбом ‘Grand Hotel’. Этот концептуальны альбом – своеобразная предтеча «Отеля Калифорнии» группы Eagles. Так же, как у американских коллег, темой альбома стал философский вопрос о тщете и бренности человеческого существования. Общей канвой для сюжета песен послужил некий Гранд-отель с его обманным блеском и роскошью. «Сегодня мы спим на шёлковых простынях, мы пьём прекрасное вино и едим экзотическое мясо, серебряные блюда, чистейший хрусталь, сегодня мы остановились в Гранд отеле». Кстати, в композиции "Fires (Which Burnt Brightly)" на бэк-вокале слышится женский голос, который должен был быть знаком любителям французского кино и музыки. Особенно тем, кто видел фильму "Шербурские зонтики". Этот прекрасный голос принадлежал Кристиане Легран, сестре композитора Леграна и по совместительству участницы ансамxxx Swingle Singers.

Atom Heart Mother — пятый студийный альбом британской рок-группы Pink Floyd, выпущенный 10 октября 1970 года. «Atom Heart Mother» достиг первого места в хит-парадах в Великобритании и 55-го места в США.Альбом был записан в Студии Эбби Роуд (Abbey Road Studios). Инженерами звукозаписи выступили Алан Парсонс (Alan Parsons) и Питер Боун (Peter Bown), а продюсером альбома стал Норман Смит (Norman Smith). Оркестровой аранжировкой для заглавной композиции «Atom Heart Mother» занимался Рон Гисин (Ron Geesin), и именно благодаря ему группе удалось скомпоновать воедино разрозненные части этой песни. Альбом стал первым экспериментом группы в области квадрофонической записи. Для обложки была выбрана корова по кличке Лалабель III. Корова выбрана потому, что музыканты Pink Floyd хотели избавиться от репутации группы исполняющей «космический» рок, и пытались сделать оформление альбома так, чтобы оно никак не было связано с музыкой, после долгих поисков изображений один из друзей Торгерсона вспомнил о знаменитых обоях с коровами Энди Уорхола, Сторм поехал в Эссекс и сфотографировал первую попавшуюся корову. В результате, по его словам получилась, "...наиболее общее изображение коровы. это Корова как таковая"... Название альбома появилось после того, как понадобилось назвать первую композицию во время премьерной записи в Парижском театре Би-би-си. Первую сторону альбома занимает совместная заглавная композиция всех четырёх членов группы, которая основана на идее Дэвида Гилмора. Соавтором сюиты выступал Рон Гисин. Вторую сторону альбома занимают композиции: «If», написанная и исполненная Роджером Уотерсом; «Summer ‘68» написанная и исполненная Ричардом Райтом; «Fat Old Sun» написанная и исполненная Дэвидом Гилмором. Завершает альбом совместная композиция Мейсона, Гилмора, Уотерса и Райта - «Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast».

Iron Butterfly — американская рок-группа, образовавшаяся в 1966 году в Сан-Диего, Калифорния и исполнявшая тяжёлый эйсид-рок с элементами прогрессивного рока. Fleetwood Mac, one of rock s most enduring, beloved and successful bands, circulate another round of Rumours with expanded and deluxe versions of the album in celebration of its 35th anniversary. Rumours made the band one of the most iconic bands of the 1970s and garnered wide critical praise, earned the Grammy® for Album of the Year, and has now sold more than 40 million copies worldwide since its 1977 debut. Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks recorded Rumours against a backdrop personal turmoil, chronicling their raw emotions in songs like "Go Your Own Way," "Gold Dust Woman" and "Dreams," the latter becoming the band s first number one smash. The deluxe edition includes the original album and the b-side "Silver Springs," a dozen unreleased live recordings from the group s 77 world tour, an entire disc filled with unreleased takes from the album s recording sessions, an additional disc of outtakes, a DVD that features The Rosebud Film, a 1977 documentary about the album, and the album on vinyl. The disc of 12 unreleased live recordings from the band s 1977 Rumours tour features performances from concerts in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Nashville and Columbia, S.C. The songs include album tracks like "The Chain," "Oh Daddy" and "Songbird" as well as "World Turning" and "Rhiannon, " two tracks from the group s 1975 eponymous release. Producers also have compiled a selection of 16 unreleased recordings from the album s sessions including early takes of "Go Your Own Way, " "I Don t Want To Know" and the popular b-side "Silver Springs. " There are also several demo recordings, including one for the outtake "Planets of the Universe", plus an instrumental version of "Never Going Back Again." The deluxe edition of Rumours also features the 18-track compilation of session outtakes originally released in the 2004 reissue of the album, the original album on 140-gram vinyl, and a DVD with "The Rosebud Film." This 1977 documentary by Michael Collins includes interviews, rehearsal footage and live performances of "World Turning," "Rhiannon," "Say You Love Me, " "Go Your Own Way," "You Make Loving Fun" and "I m So Afraid."
