FARPOINT are a 6-piece outfit from South Carolina whose melodic style alternates between acoustic folksy ballads and harder-edged blues rock. You can't deny their 'Christian' leanings although they never smack you around with preachy lyrics. In addition to standard rock instrumentation, they use classical guitar, mandolin, flute and various types of percussion. Vocal duties are shared between two very different vocalist, female Dana Oxendine's angelic voice and Clark Boone's husky/gravelly type reminiscent of Ritchie Havens.

Fair to Midland is an American progressive metal band formed in 1998. They are currently signed to E1 Music. According to the band's official website, their name comes from "...an old Texan play on the term 'fair to middling'." The band produced two self-released albums and one album and an EP under Serjical Strike. They have recently finished recording their fourth studio album entitled "Arrows & Anchors".

Jon Cleary, an addition to the lineup, plays the pivotal role; his piano drives the steaming New Orleans groove on "Fool's Game," the posturing street funk of "Monkey Business," and the dusty blues tread on the acoustic-textured "No Gettin' Over You." The material, culled from American and African songwriters, along with a few Raitt originals.

This time I had an easy job to judge this fantastic release. Everything concerning Quartus Artifactus is just wonderful and therefore only the highest rating will do. In the review of the latest CD by Twelfth Night MMX (see review) I said that I don’t rate a live album with five stars that often. I didn’t expect to give another live album a five-star rating within such a short period of time. But I did and it’s well deserved!
