"The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte," the title track of their twenty-fifth album is lush and robust; as Cate Blanchett, who stars in the accompanying video, has said: "You know, 'the girl is crying in her latte'—it's so deep and shallow, simultaneously." "Is it due to the rain/ Or is she in some pain ... The girl is crying in her latte, yeah," Russell sings. "Now she's leaving the place/ Someone's taking her place/ Orders, then takes a seat/ Looks like it's a repeat ... So many people are crying in their latte." Can't Buy a Thrill became an unexpected hit, and as a response, Donald Fagen became the group's full-time lead vocalist, and he and Walter Becker acted like Steely Dan was a rock & roll band for the group's second album, Countdown to Ecstasy. The loud guitars and pronounced backbeat of "Bodhisattva," "Show Biz Kids," and "My Old School" camouflage the fact that Countdown is a riskier album, musically speaking, than its predecessor. Each of its eight songs have sophisticated, jazz-inflected interludes, and apart from the bluesy vamps "Bodhisattva" and "Show Biz Kids," which sound like they were written for the stage, the songs are subtly textured. "Razor Boy," with its murmuring vibes, and the hard bop tribute "Your Gold Teeth" reveal Becker and Fagen's jazz roots, while the country-flavored "Pearl of the Quarter" and the ominous, skittering "King of the World" are both overlooked gems.

Samantha Fish has received practically every accolade a contemporary blues singer/songwriter/guitarist could hope for. She's a festival headliner with multiple Blues Music Awards, who has graced the cover of guitar magazines and toured internationally to packed houses. Fish commands her cathartic shows with her edgy vocal delivery and in-your-face slide guitar. Jesse Dayton is an American musician, actor and record producer best known for his guitar contributions to albums by country musicians including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. He is also notable for his collaborations with horror film director Rob Zombie, who has commissioned Dayton on multiple occasions to record music to accompany his films. In recent years Dayton has released several critically acclaimed solo albums. Together Fish and Dayton teamed up with Producer Jon Spencer of the electrifying Jon Spencer's Blues Explosion for Death Wish Blues, the first collaboration for the duo. The result is a highly enjoyable set of sharply composed songs that prominently feature searing guitar and sultry vocals, delivered with Fish's signature blues rock sound.

Cheat To Win is the second album released by the obscure melodic hard rock/glam metal band from US Utah in 1985. Singer Rick "The Jack" Jackson was previously a member of MEGATTAK. The album contains 7 tracks, including a cover of THE BEATLES' "Dear Prudence" and BADFINGER's "Day After Day", plus 2 bonus tracks, for a total of 9 tracks. Remastered. Like the first album, Rock Elite, reissued at the same time, this is a great album with a poppy and catchy melodic hard rock/glam metal sound, so aficionados are advised to buy the two albums together. In 1984, The Jack was the top act in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Jack was one of the first glam metal bands to come out of Utah. Rick Jackson had a unique, raspy voice that would appeal to fans of Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot) while the band played a mix of glammy hard rock with melodic keyboards. After the release of this album, Rick moved to L.A. and began working with Phil Sandoval, the original guitarist for ARMORED SAINT, after which the band broke up.
