By the end of the 2009 tour, Aynsley and his band were sounding in their best ever form. The addition of keys to the line-up had really freshened things up and given Aynsley a new found freedom. No longer having to worry about filling out the sound, Aynsley was able to play more melodically and expressively. This approach developed extensively over the course of the year and by the end of the tour things were really cooking. Aynsley felt that this was the perfect time to capture the live set, to produce an ideal statement of how the band had evolved, breathing new life into some of the classic tracks of Aynsley's extensive repertoire.
The Tower Sessions is in fact a "Greatest Live Hits" album. A collection of 11 songs, that Aynsley has performed on stages throughout the world over the years. Most importantly, the album includes the first ever recording of his fans' favourite track, a truly stellar version of Prince's Purple Rain.
Recorded in January 2010, at The Tower Winchester, totally live, no overdubs or studio trickery, the Tower Sessions is a superb example of Aynsley and his band in their prime: Fresh from the road with that `end of tour tightness' that really brings the songs to life.
