Anyone who knows Aynsley Lister's previous albums is rubbing their eyes. An undistorted disc without a band, live and without overdubs was not necessarily expected from the guy. But you can tell with every note that he had a lot of fun with the thing. Only a single composition of his own can be heard, but it can easily exist in the context of material of such greats as John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Witherspoon, Lightnin' Hopkins, Son House or even Tony Joe White and Sheryl Crow. Equipped with a guitar, a stompbox and a microphone, Lister shows that he can create magic even without accompaniment. Highlights are "Mad Man Blues" by Hooker, "Empire State Express" by Son House and Lister's "Aeroplane Blues". A wonderfully reduced album, unspectacular and therefore his best so far.

The album Supakev N Pilchards is a world of its own, away from the discs together with his powerful band. It is the best proof that Lister does it just as well solo as with band. He invariably performs stunningly, his singing is passionate. Just listen to the guitar on Witherspoon's Tougher Than Tough or John Lee Hooker's Mad Man Blues. Lister riffs on the self-written Aeroplane Blues with a slide and cheeky vocals and shows what you can play without a band in sight.
