THE THIRD ENDING - THE THIRD ENDING - 2006

THE THIRD ENDING is yet another promising and valorously appreciated progressive new band, coming from the small island of Tasmania, south of Australia. The band formed back in 2002, when like-minded musicians Andrew Curtis, Andrew Knott and Cornel Ianculovici met singer Nick Storr and started to play and compose together. The next two years were consumed comprising music for a debut album and etching up their own idea of unique value, talented gift and modern imperative sound. The debut was finally released in 2006, at first as an independent and unsigned album. But, after many favorable reviews, a big contract with Prog Rock Records was scored, in December 2006.

The vision of THIRD ENDING is simple and cohesive, as much as it can be called diverse. The progressive rock direction is a personal pleasure they've found more pronounced than anything else, as much as it is a genre of musical opportunity, from which they are able to evolve and perform in an even better or intransigent manner. Generally, the usual influence the four musicians always have in mind includes modern progressive names like the paradigmatic PORCUPINE TREE, the alternative SPOCK'S BEARD, the label-mates CRYPTIC VISION or, more relishing noted, the raw/melodic DREAM THEATER. PINK FLOYD, instead, comes in mind as a more classic progressive influence. Uniqueness is never far from this group, it's only a...progressive method itself. There are some articles and impressions, after all, claiming THE THIRD ENDING is among the best Australian progressive bands...ever.

Convinced with their music's value, THE THIRD ENDING's general (as well as detailed) orientations seems to include steadily-important songwriting with easy, fluid, coherent or attractive lines, a bit vow pleasure in guitar music, along synth, organ or piano accompaniment and percussion deep rhythm. The progressive essence is even better when the music has brightness in power ballads (epic or simple), striking vocal expressions or instrumental artistic unleashes (in a rock, alternative or metal balance).

The self-titled debut is melodic, approachable and hard-edge. The metallic or alternative impressions are hardly severe as to obscure the new-wave affection, the powerful instrumentality, some spacey drops of style or the quality flexible songwriting. Playing elegant acoustic-styled guitar work or mixing songs of genuine flair and symbols, it's all a third-wave interesting progressive movement.
